Okay, I see where you going. The crank cap seats the crank arm to the base of spindle crank splines. These BB's do not have angular bearing that require or need preload adjustments. They are radial bearings that are not to be preloaded. The crank cap can be overtightened and place an unwanted sideload on the bearings, but no preload should be applied.

I've always considered that a preload adjustment, I thought everyone did.
