looking to get a bash guard for my fisher mullet (for looks and for functionality) and i believe that it replaces the 42 tooth outer chainwheel so my question is whether i should get a bash guard the size of a 42 tooth or as large as the second chainwheel (or like 2-4 teeth larger than the second)?

also, what kinds of bash guards do you guys prefer/have pics of on your bikes?

Get one big enough to cover your largest chain ring you will have left on the crank. Will give you the maximum ground clearance that way.

As for what kind - I prefer cheap as they are designed to smack the ground/obstacles. I like aluminum ones, but the fad currently appears to be towards the plastic guards in multi colors.....

Not flashy like other stuff but they're solid and from what I've heard they work (I haven't put mine on yet, still debating if I want to keep my 44tooth or not), but they're $14 total shipping and everything to anywhere.

if i were to put a bash guard on, would i have two gear selections in the front instead of three?

If you have two chainrings left (middle and "granny"), you have two selections left.... You can restrict the front derailer movement by adjusting the setting screws, so that you don't try to shift onto the bashring.

If you get a bashring that goes over the big ring, like Blackspire's big ring protector, you still have three rings and selections in front.
