Holy crap talk about a cool trail. I just got to ride it on sunday and it was really nice. The trails located just NW of farmington on La Plata Highway. No markings on how to get to the trail so you pretty much need a local for directions. I rode with one of the mechanics from my lbs. If any of you guys like technical trails this is it. Lots of technical climbing from loose dirt over rock ledges to climbing up large faces. Nasty little descents that make having a 5+ trailbike nice. One the outer loop the way back down is a very nice little gully that is all rock and is almost formed like a natural halfpipe. It is very fun to play in. It's almost a neccessity on this trail to stop and play because there are so many technical areas to have fun with. There is even some nice smooth singletrack mixed in to change things up a bit. Scrapes scratches and bruise are pretty much a given on this trail. I'm glad it was cold yesterday so I was wearing long sleeves and leg cover. If any of you are ever up in Farmington this trail is definetely worth trying out. I sure loved it :D .

There is I think about 9 miles. Took us about 3 hrs though. Could be done faster but we stopped to play around and do some small drops. Oh yeah and a few extra stops for everyone to wait for my out of shape butt lol.

Edit: I almost forgot the trail can be shorter too if you cut off the top loop (if you don't have much time). There is also supposed to be another loop added on this winter to make the trail even longer.

Just did some asking around and the trail you are thinking of is the Pinon Mesa trails which start on private land owned by two doctors, but it is open for use to all mountain bikers. Pinon Mesa is also a fun trail to ride I've ridden it a few times. Barker Dome is on BLM land and is also legal to use for mountain bikers.
The other loop has been added on bringing the mileage up but I'm not sure what to since I haven't had a chance to ride the extra loop.

No problem if anyones ever up here just shoot me a pm and I'll help you out with riding the trail even if I can't.
Thanks for the offer. I usually drive that way when going to Moab, and I like to break up the drive with a ride. I've been hitting Phil's World in Cortez, which is a blast, but something new and challenging is always fun. I'll look you up when I hit Moab this spring.

Sounds good just let me know when.
DesertYeti,
I wouldn't mind a tour guide myself, I live about 8 miles from Wildcat Canyon and LaPlata Hwy. Most of the mtn biking in Durango is muddy right now and I get a little tired of Alien and Phil's, so I've been on the road bike.
I have a pretty flexible schedule.

We can probably arrange something. I'm gonna be gone for a week here in two days and then I start fire academy a bit after that so I'm pretty short on time. But, send me a pm with your phone number and I will give it to the guys I ride with and have them call you when they ride it again.

Haven't looked yet, But it would be really nice if these trail reviews/info could be added to the trail review list on this site. This seems like some valuable beta to share and preserve for others! Thanks for the info!

Barker Dome Trail

I know that there is a map to the Barker Dome Trail. I found it once, but I lost my printout and now I can't find it anywhere on the internet. I can only find pinon mesa, alien run, and the glade run system.
