Bar ends with a slight curve are more comfortable for longer climbs. Otherwise, they are all pretty much the same.

I should have added that stubbies (and Cane Creek Ergos) are pretty useless for moving your weight forward for climbs. Bar ends are dirt cheap- just get some Profile Designs (or other bog-standard bar end) and see how you like them.

I use old fashion long bar ends with curve. Most convenient for moving weight forward and least prone to get caught in shrubs. Install them at angle 5-10 degree down of the horizon.

I use the Cane Creek Ergos that the guy is hating on above me. I like them and they have a rubber grip so your hands/ gloves won't slip. I have also never caught them on anything. I ride with a 120mm stem so that may be why I don't see a problem. With such a long stem my front tire stays on the ground.

I use the old tried and true Profile Design with the slight curve. I haven't caught anything on them in the numerous years I've been using them.

Big ole Titec L-bends. More hand positions and they effectively protect your hands from any tree strikes. If they hook anything ... you were going down anyway.

lol! theres always gotta be a hater...i too have never had any problems with my stubby's.
It's good to see I'm not in the boat alone against the hater. I don't really see how someone could have a problem with these bar ends. They're not long enough to catch anything and if they did catch something whatever caught the bar end was going to catch the handlebar anyways. They provide a different hand position and I can get more leverage when using them to climb. I don't have any complaints with them.

I personally don't like bar ends.
I can see your point. Like I've said I haven't had any problem with mine, but I have big hands so my hand rubs on my rubber bar end. I have recently started wearing gloves, but it's not much better. I like the bar ends for the added hand positions, but I also don't like it because my hands almost feel trapped b/c they're so big. I may take them off soon to see if I'm more comfortable without them. There's always something positive and negative about every part.

I own a pair of the ergons. The do tend to get caught on vines from time to time. They have 2 options when u buy them, short and long. I have the short ones and they are nice for an extra hand position, but pretty worthless if you want to shift weight around like longer bar ends.

My favorites are from LP Composites Braids. A little pricey compared to some of the other options, but damn comfortable.

I like my bar ends for stretching out in front of the bike, so have little use for stubby offerings -- otherwise, the Cane Creek ergo-turds are awesome.

And there's no reason you can't use Ergon's comfy grips with any other brands' bar ends.

I'll tell you what ALL bar ends need. They all need lock on grip slots. That way you shorten up your grips and use the bar end clamp for a grip clamp.

For single track rides, I don't use bar ends. For longer gravel metric or standard centuries, I will use them to give myself a change in hand position on longer straight stretches of road. With the bar width that I have on my KM, I didn't like the twichiness of the handling I had when riding with the bar ends this winter. Not enough leverage for my tastes. To each his own on whether or not to use them. As for the ends themselves. I use the profile designs ones. They were cheap, they work, and they come on/off the bike easily.
