Bad RP3...

I had a feeling something was wrong with my RP3 when I recieved my new bike last week, the blue PP lever has sort of a "grinding" feeling when you move it, and you can't move it without it dragging the compression dial, but since this is my 1st RP3, I couldn't be sure.

But now I know there is a problem, I added some air to it last night and oil came leaking out of the air valve. Bummer. I have heard great things about Fox's CS though, so I don't think it will take long to get me running again.

There's nothing wrong with some oil coming out the air valve. The interior of the air chamber is lubricated with heavy gear oil that's just loose in there. When you don't get any oil coming out, or worse, when you don't see little oil lines on the external shaft, then it's time to do an overhaul and put in some more lubricant The overhauls are quite easy.

I didn't know RP3's had a "compression dial" other than the PP lever. You sure you don't mean the rebound dial?

...hmmm - So thats what that dial does!

Yeah, so the lever moves the rebound dial, which is anoying at worst, but since i run reboud 3 clicks from the "0" side its always easy to put it back. But Steve, to further explain, when I pumped the shock and removed the pump, there was a little oil that leaked out onto my hand, and my pump nozzel was full of oil - are you SURE this is normal for an RP3? I have a Float R on my wifes bike, and I've never seen anything leaking out of the air chamber from the valve.

Also remember the EPI runs the RP3 upsidedown.

It's pretty normal to have some oil squirt out of the air valve when you remove the pump. Some will squirt out more than others. I often have to clean the pump head with a cloth after removing it. As long as you don't lose like a tea spoon full or something.

OK, so the oil doesn't seem to be a problem then, but I spoke to Fox & they immediately issued me a call tag to replace/or look at the shock due to the grinding lever action. As expected they seem on the ball, those boys at Fox!
