Figure some of you must also backcountry ski. I am looking for a place near the Bozeman area that offers backcountry ski gear and know what they are doing when it comes to boot fitting. Any recommendations? I hit Uphill Pursuits today. The kid was super nice but really knew nothing about fitting us for boots. I know what I am doing when it comes to alpine but the backcountry stuff is a new world for me. I still may go back there when they have more gear come in, but another option would be really nice. Thanks Pete

Now that Northern Lights is no longer around your next best bet for BC-specific bootfitting is probably going to be Timber Trails over in Livingston. You might just want to try UP some other time when another employee/owner is there.

Other than REI, I don't know of any other place IN Bozeman that has any emphasis on BC skiing. That said, a good bootfitter should know how to take care of you - you pretty much just need more room in the toe box, right? PhD Skis handles lots of racers, maybe they are worth a visit.

I'm a splitboarder though so my boots are comfy right of the shelf. :p

Thanks guys. Timber Trails is no longer. Basically got rolled into Dan Baileys. They have such limited inventory and are not selling boots. My daughter suggested I go to Sports Chalet in Bozeman. It is actually where I got my Norco Sight. Well, as good as they were to deal with the bike, they were better with ski gear. I ended up with a pair of Line Vision 108s fitted with Dynafit Rotation Bindings. They did a great job fitting me for boots as well. I ended up in a pair of Radical Pros. Almost went with the technica zero G. Probably a slightly better fit but I really liked the walk mode of the Dynafit. The fits felt pretty darn close though.

I was so happy with their service that I went back and got a pair of new alpine boots. My days of my Lange race boots that are two sizes smaller than my feet are over. I'm not racing beer league anymore and prefer to spend the rest of my years chasing softer snow.
