Im looking for lever to match up with Avid mech discs. The ultimates sound like the way to go, but the price is holding me back on getting them. The SLs seem to have similar features as the ultimates.

Does anyone have any experience with these levers?

I don't know what the SL is, but I have the speed dial 7 levers and they work great, but so did the LX levers I had before. The LX levers just felt bad and wiggled up and down.

It appears that they've done with the *NEW* Speed Dial SL levers what they've done with the *OLD* Speed Dial Ti levers: take the SD7, add titanium hardware, and sell it as the "lightweight" option. I wouldn't expect them to be much different than the outgoing series of SD levers.

This would mean the levers pivot on sleeves, not bearings as on the Ultimates.

Awesome!

I replaced my SD5's with some SL's last night and it's like a whole new braking system!
Excellent feel at the lever, smoother action, and weight comparable to the ultimates - I'm psyched!

It's definitely a step up from the old stuff if you ask me

BTW - I'm using an avid disc up front and a SD3 in the rear & both feel better after the swap.

Loved the SL's......until I crashed

I've had the SL's on my bike w/Avid Mechanicals for about a month and loved the way they look and they way they felt. Until I had a a minor crash (and I mean really minor) and say that one lever blade was bent and the other lever blade was cracked. I'm going to call Avid and see if they have a crash replacement policy or if they can sell me the blades. I'll buy a cheap set of Shimano or SRAM levers to use and keep around as a extra set.
