Avid QR20 adapter for 04 DJII?

Hi folks - I've searched but can't quite nail down the answer. Do I need Avid's QR20 adpater to mount my 203 mm mechanicals to an 04 DJ2? I gave it a try with my regular fork adapter, and the caliper is oriented properly. But - I need spacers between the fork mounts and the adapter to get the caliper to line up with the rotor properly. And when I do, the adapter is extremely close to rubbing against the rotor.

Is Avid's QR 20 adapter offset in order to provide clearance from the rotor, or was it really only intended for older QR20 forks?
