Okay, I have what should be a simple question....

Is there a true difference in the caliper of a FRONT brake and a REAR brake?

When I see ordering of these brakes, it says specify FRONT or REAR. Is there truly a difference? Reason - I have a 160mm front brake, but I'd like to go full disc, and I would like to put the 160 on the rear, and buy a 185mm for the front for my new 29"er. Can I just put the "front" brake on the back, and buy a new 185mm front brake, or do I need to buy a new REAR brake and then eventually sell my front 160 to buy a front 185?

Front and rear calipers are identical. But, you will either need:
(a) an Avid rear 160mm adapter, which can be had for $10 or $12 online, or
(b) a 140mm rotor to mount in the rear to use with your front 160mm adapter
