Greetings,

My Wife purchaed a Stumpy FSR with Avid Mechanical brakes. They whine when not in use and it is driving her (and Me as a result) nutty. We've had it in the shop a number of times and they are hopeless. A friend has suggested changing out the organic pads to metallic to solve the problem. Any comments?

I realize that discs will make some noise but they shouldn't make a continuous high pitched whine. Also, it only happens when she is on the bike, ti won't do it on the stand.

Thank you,

Beanman

Not a pad compound issue.

It is a setup issue.

Make sure the housing lengths are not affecting the brakes.
Make sure the QR skewers are tight enough.
Make adjustments to the pad spacing during rides.
