Avid Brake Screw WTF?

Avid Juicy 7 Ultimate Brakes

My right side brake lever is missing it's bleed screw - but it is not leaking fluid and looking down in there I see a T10 screw. No fluid is leaking out, and the brakes work fine. What do I need to do here? Just get a new cap screw? Is it a mistake to ride it this way?

Also, if anyone is out riding on Mt Elden outside of Flagstaff - keep an eye out for that screw! :???:

missing screw?

Has it recently been serviced by a shop? Perhaps somebody lost the screw and replaced it with another.

No, I bled the brakes and evidently did not screw it in tight enough.

I guess my real question here is that I am not understanding why it's not leaking?
There is that other screw farther down - what's that? Where can I get a new cap screw?
that "other screw" looks like a plug to me - which is the same as your normal screw. didn't you have to get it out when you bleed?

Nope, I took the silver screw out to bleed.

That black screw is not supposed to be there...not sure what's going on. You could not have bled them with that there. Where did the silver one go?
This is getting crazy.
OK, I took the silver screw off, and bled the brakes.
Put the screw back in. Rode up down and all over Mt Eldon / Dry Lake Hills outside of Flagstaff.
Got back to my campsite and noticed the silver screw was gone, but no leaks. I did not put the black screw in there, and no one else has worked on my bike.

Like I said - wtf.

I have never seen a black plug/grub screw underneath the silver (in this case) screw. It's usually just a single bolt with an o-ring. The silver screw could not thread in and bottom with that black bolt there.

It's not leaking because the screw is threading into threads. The threads do form a seal. You certainly would not have been able to draw or push fluid past the black screw if it was there.

Did you accidentally put the silver screw on the caliper end? And the black screw from the banjo bolt (caliper bleed port) in the lever?
That's the caliper screw - it's smaller than the lever screw but still fits. Does you caliper look like you have a larger screw than normal?

um.... yes. :madman: DOH!

This would be pretty funny if someone else did it.
I guess I must have been in a hurry getting ready to leave town last week!
Thanks you guys. I will swap them back out now.
