Will this caliper work for a manitou fork that has v brake post and rear mount faced disc mounts ? Ive heard no brackets needed , just mount the caliper directly to the fork. Is this right ?

Assuming its not one of the late 90's weird sized post mounts on that Manitou...yes, it mounts directly with the CPS washers.

It is a 2007 manitou R7 ...

Should be 74mm post mount, 160mm rotor it'll bolt right up. 185 and 203 will require an Avid adapter.

I have an '06 R7. Both my previous and my current Avid brakes just mounted right onto the posts, as described above.
With any Manitou post mount, take the time to make sure you are using the longest allen screws that will not bottom out in the threads. Just thread the screw in there with nothing attached and see how far it will thread in. If you can use a longer screw, do it even if it means a trip to the hardware store to get them.

The forums are littered with people that torqued their disc brake caliper mounting screws to the brake manufacturer's specs (as Manitou recommends) and proceeded to strip the threads in the fork lowers.
