AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF
Monday, August 02, 2004

Organizers are planning a large celebration for downtown Austin on Aug. 13 to celebrate Lance Armstrong's historic sixth consecutive Tour de France victory.

Details are still sketchy, but the man in the yellow jersey is expected to attend, along with a slate of speakers and bands, city officials said Monday. Fireworks and a light show are also on tap.

In 2001, thousands of people jammed the shores of Town Lake for a celebration welcoming Armstrong from his third tour victory.

Just got back a this evening from it. Luckily I can walk from home, so I didn't have to deal with traffic. Lance came by fairly quickly, so only one shot for him. The crowd was quite large. They have had two other parades in Austin for his previous wins that I attended. I still think the first one (for 1999) was the best by far.
