Those who have been following some of the threads in the Aussie forum may have heard about Mount Stromlo, which was home to arguably some of the best and oldest single track trails in Australia. Devastating bushfires destroyed the popular area back in 2003, wiping out what was an extensive trail network.

Not to be defeated the riders, wider community and the government have got together and have created "Stromlo Forest Park" with over 40km of superbly crafted singletrack, a world class DH run, and an awesome four cross track. Designed by trail god Glen Jacobs and built by his team and many hours of volunteer labour, Stromlo is set to win the bid to host the 2009 Mountain Bike and Trials World Championships.

I am only scratching the surface in terms of details as there is more in the works, for more information head over to the Canberra Off Road Cyclists web page and click the Mount Stromlo link. In the recent MTBR Aussie Gathering Post there are also a few photos of some of us rolling about in the dirt after a huge weekend of riding in the ACT to put things in perspective. ;)

While this video is aimed at promoting the last round of the Aussie national series it is well worth a look to see what has been going on at Stromlo, there's a bit of XC, DH, 4X and trials to keep you entertained

Right Click and Save, 35mb and 10 minutes long.

Cheers, Dave.

EDIT: Here are a few shots from the gathering to tease you with:

I wish we had more of that happening here in the South Eastern US.

It looks to be very dry there. The start of the XC race looked like the start of the motorcycle class at the Baja 1000 :D . Nice video, thax for sharing.

Yeah they really badly need some rain over that way. In fact most of Australia is in a pretty bad drought at the moment, very dry indeed.

Glad you enjoyed the video.
