Assegai: 2.5 vs 2.6

I’m considering the assegai for my next front tire. Trying to decide between 2.5 or 2.6 in 27.5 3c/exo maxxterra. I remember I was disappointed in the 2.6 minion dhf, compared to the 2.5 the knobs were slightly lower esp. the side knobs and had a rounder profile side grip/cornering wasn’t as good. Also the 3c compound of the 2.6 was definitely harder and less grippy than the 3c of the 2.5. Wonder if any of this or other differences between 2.5 and 2.6 applies to the assegai. Also can anyone tell me the actual sizes on a ~29 mm rim, tread and casing?

2.6 exo+ on left 2.5 exo right. I had to run a bit more pressure in the 2.6 than others to keep it from folding over. The 2.5 I could run almost the same as the 2.6 and not fold over.

thanks man!
Rubber compound feel identical?
Using my expertly calibrated fingers… granted I have had these tires on the shelf a while the 2.5 did seem a hair softer. I could flex the side knobs a bit more.

Now I'm curious about running them back to back. I'll let you know how it goes.
I only had 2.6 Dhr and Rekon maxxterra and both compounds were significantly harder than they 2.4 maxxterra versions that i also have. (both center and side knobs)
So if the compound is very important to you, stay on the safe side and get the 2.5 as i suppose also the assegai will have this "problem".
I really don't understand why for maxxis, on the 2.6 versions we should have a very harder compound...Maybe 2.6 versions are intended only for heavier ebikes?

I have a 2.4 dhr2 in dual compound and a 2.6 dhr2 in 3c, and the 2.6 3c feels harder than the 2.4 dc

Had the same experience with my 2.5/2.6 DHFs. Currently running a 2.5 assegai and the 3C feels as soft as the 2.5 DHF.
I think im gonna go with the 2.5”. Softer rubber sounds better than .1” wider

My bike came with a 2.6×29 exo+ and felt it to be bit to big. I switched the front and rears over to 2.5×29 with exo casing and like the much better. Tires are really a personal choice, as one tire size might feel better to one person versus the next. My two tires of choice have been the Maxxis Assagai and Specialized Eliminator T7 in a 2.6×29

I just swapped my 2.6 Exo+ DHF out for a 2.6 Exo+ Assegai last night (both maxxterra). Haven't gotten a ride in yet, but I'm happy to not have the unnerving gap in tread that the 2.6 DHF had anymore. I'm looking forward to seeing if the cornering characteristics are as improved as they appear they will be based on the different tread pattern. The Assegai compound feels a little softer than the DHF it replaced, but only slightly. Gotta swap the rear DHRII tonight and then its go time.
