Has this been forgotten? What date range has it ussually been?

I am happy to host a Hawes night ride/Beerduro. Anybody else want to rep their area?

yup mtbr is too good for spring fling . It seems to have been turned into a private group thang. Shame as it was always nice to meet other like minded individuals and ride trails you may not normally ride.

I remember someone asking about it a while back and whoever typically organized it (can't remember who now) said they weren't going to organize it this year.

That being said, what's this about a private group thing clockwork? Where did you hear that?

would say I heard it but I read about rides that were referred to spring fling rides on a few social media outlets.

If you're referring to the Death Valley ride, that was not part of SF, and was open to everybody anyway. But def not in any way associated with SF. Just want to be clear on that.

^ this. Private invite only Facebook groups and the exclusionary attitude has turned the SF into an "who you know" event.

That's just stupid. I've never had the chance of attending a SF event because of bad timing every year but I was looking forward to trying it this year. I hate people who do this whole exclusive crap.

As a previous MTBR AZ Spring Fling organizer, I have to say that this event has always been a Labor of Love. I was a wreck the year I was in charge and lost a few friends to power struggles and silly assumptions. But I kept volunteering year after year as ride leader or party organizer. It all came to head when some 80 people (okay, maybe it was only 50) showed up for my posted DURTGURL Sedona ride, maybe late 2000s. I tried to split it up into groups on the spot, but no one would take leadership. That, my MTBR pals, was the end of my Spring Fling enthusiasm. Thankfully Chad did a fine job for several years in a row. But for Spring Fling to continue, someone must step up and take ownership. That did not happen this year, so no Spring Fling.

As for this year's "private" Spring Flingers, my Ohio friends came to visit last week even tho there was no official MTBR Spring Fling. I called their visit "AZ Spring Fling" on FaceBook, in jest. I even took the whole week off from work and meant to post up rides on AZMTBR as the Ohio boys and I decided what to do in hopes that other MTBRers might join. But then I got a raging yeast infection (TMI? so so sorry), had a horrible reaction to OTC meds, and was off the bike moaning in self pity the entire week. So even my Private AZSpringFling was a bust. Maybe someone will step up and take ownership next year, but most likely not. Things change, people move on, nothing stays the same forever.

Sugarhigh: Spring Fling or not, I say host another Hawes Beerduro, it was a blast last year (even though I DNF'd it!) and can be done anytime!!

I try & post up rides all the time, not all of them are 60-80 mile beatdowns mind you. I've been a bit surprised by the general lack of participation recently for the local stuff, but I'll keep posting them.

Why there just so happens to be a sweet bikepacking loop going down this weekend.

I'll throw this out there as well, I'd like to do a recon ride on AZT passage #19, a Ripsey loop & maybe another BCT ride all in April. No particular dates set yet, but keep your eyes/ears open.

Stop the whining! Let's go ride. I offer you a Hawes night ride.and beer drinking on Friday, April 4th. Meet at my garage at 6:00, 7755 E Western Hills, Mesa, Az, gate#7777.

Ride for a couple hours, find the beer bush, maybe throw in a fun test or two, and have a few more beers back at the garage. All are welcome. Might think of some other cool ideas as well.

Anyone else going to represent their local spot in the month of April? .

Rides over 5 people tend to become cluster fvcks.
I respectfully disagree. One of the most memorable groups rides I've had was a 13-person night right at Hawes last summer. We all stayed together, had a decently fast pace, and we all carried our trail beer. Can't wait to do that again this summer! :)
