I have a trail 429 on order and I’m wondering if it would be cheaper and smarter to try and get the shop to switch out the 35mm carbon bars and possibly the system before I pick it up.
I asked PIVOT about it and the guy admitted people at PIVOT on their bikes Switch to 31.8 bar.
Pivot will not give the buyer any help/options in bar or stem.
Thank you.

The stem was slightly too long as standard, and this was the only 35mm set up I had. I just changed the bar and stem to a 31.8mm set up before riding it properly. Spank vibrocore bars are my go to if not using carbon bars, which I did because I wanted a specific colour.

I'm going to build up my G1 Firebird and I'll use the 429 bars and stem on that.

I work a PIVOT, and I have not heard of co-workers switching to 31.8 bars. We don't have stock on that size bar and stem, so not sure who would do that in this office.

I have 35mm bars on my bike, as well as on my last 2 Switchblades, I never feel these bars are too stiff or are harsh.

Well either he knows people you do not, or… I just know what I was told earlier today when I called PIVOT. I do not think it is a bad thing to want comfort vs harshnesses. It should be up to the buyer/rider. I know the build I am waiting on, is not free to me. It is in fact costing me a LOT OF MONEY!
I am just trying to figure out what I can now, to possibly save money, and hassle in the future, if possible.

You will be the only one to decide if the bar is too stiff. Everyone rides differently and some who ride harder will think the bar is perfect and some who ride light and smooth might think its too stiff. Your weight and riding style play a big part and really you are the only one that will know if the Pivot bar is or isn't for you. I have a Pivot bar on my 2021 Trail and a One Up on my Yeti SB130LR and honestly can't tell the difference between the two.

Only you can decide-----I felt the 35 was too stiff for me so swapped for a 31.8 bar and stem and was happier. There have been several general 35 vs 31.8 discussions and in the end only you can tell what is best.
I sold the 35 parts easily as they are solid parts.

People seem to love the One Up for its forgiving nature. It's good to know that some people don't actually find them much different than Pivot bars, as I was tempted to try them. I also think grips may have a big or bigger effect in terms of vibration damping.

I went for my first ride today on my new trail 429 Enduro with the stock bars and the 36 grip 2 fork. The 429 also has much thinner much less Cush grips, that are lock on. Did not seem too stiff. I wonder if it’s because I’m used to riding the fit 4 36?. I had added the wolf tooth fatty grips to the 2016 Remedy 29, it made a positive difference on that fork and bike. But the new trail 429 with a smaller tire upfront and butter fork seems to be better. The Remedy had a 2.6 front tire. 429 smaller 2.4.
love the characteristics of the 2021/2 429.
