I was at my LBS and the owner mentioned that Turner owners were picky riders. In the past, they have said the same thing about Apple computer users.

I think it was a compliment. What do you think?

:lol::lol:

Why I can't stand those Specialized super stores, URGH shoot me!

I take that as a compliment actually mainly as we probably know enough that they are concerned we know they don't do there job properly, when I say this that's not all of em, some pull the others along and do a stellar job often there's many good ones mentioned on here, Ive never had the pleasure of meeting these guys, I can only go one what its like here!

No LBS worth there grain of salt though would say that, because someone who is passionate about their bike is someone worth dealing with usually, they know what they want how they want things setup, tuned etc, its not much to ask to have things looked after, when spending this amount of money I don't want my bike leaning up against some $200 POS and being scratched there's allot more to a customer than a bike often overlooked.

Some of the goings on Ive seen in bike shops makes my stomach turn! Then others can give the royal treatment but its few and far between in my experience something severely lacking and the way women are treated is not much better! In fact bikes usually get treated better!

If I get that feeling I'm over it and its online for me, I'm pretty self sufficient if I need to be anyway if it came to it, so more can go that way if they like they're only doing them selves in long run! I like to support good local people where I can even if it costs more! There's more to up front costs anyways! Anyway rant over :D

Ps! I love Americans, I just hate Specialised, not the players[workers] just the game/ Corporations suck!

Not really a strong link with Turner products/DT.

Apple products are targeted at wealthy/trendy/neophyte computer users, all hype/lack any real innovation, have poor quality control (often 1st and even 2nd generation products are filled with flaws), and Steve Jobs is a major *******.

Real innovators vs. Apple:
GUI - Xerox
Portable HDD MP3 Players - Compaq spinoff Remote Solutions in 1999, not Apple in 2001, many prior with flash based.
MP3 broadcasting - Nullsoft in 1998, not Apple in 2004
First 64-bit PC - DEC (and later again before Apple - 1997 and AMD also) a decade before Apple had a 64-bit PC designed as a "cheap" PC to run the then new WinNT OS
Widgets - DesktopX in 2000 and later Konfabulator on Mac in 2003, not Apple Dashboard in 2005

Their real catch phase was "Think different, think again!" :D

History of Apple's Quality (not including modern products since I haven't bought one since the G4 mini was sold):
1) Exploding powerbooks - battery system had issues (long before the recently battery problems that hit most laptop makers recently)

2) Shoddy design of the cube that overheated, had plastic finish issues, and had power button problems.

3) iBooks with defective logic boards

4) iPod battery problems

5) iBook battery problems

6) Various OS updates with disastrous bugs (including one updated that erased external HDDs - great for your backups!)

I take extreme umbrage at that remark. :D

As a Turner owner, I wonder: Why does every one settle for so much less? Me picky? Not at all. Discerning? Sure.

Gee, Syasdasi, if I didn't know any better, I'd say you were TROLLING. I'd rather not bother, since I find the Actual Topic (TM) more interesting.

Gee, there's that discerning thing again.

Yeah sure why not!?

I was in the bike shop a little over a week ago looking at a specialized epic comp but that thought in the back of my mind that Im just buying some LBS big box bike that I see at the trails every day kind of bothered me. Luckily the shop raised the price and wouldnt budge causing me to walk out, and 2 days later an assembled 06 turner 5 spot Medium popped up on Craigslist, saving me a grand from going the build route.

Last week, before I saw the 5 spot, my bike build was either going to be a used Moots, or a turner Flux. So yeah I guess Im a little picky, you should see how I am with clothes/shoes..no ****. I refuse to shop at the local mall.

It's nice to have something a little special/unique, and having someone else appreciate it.

Nah that is reality, those are historical facts. Apple has a lot of hype and hot air to it, especially with Jobs back in power. Turner/DT makes the real deal.

I know this because I've used everything from Apple (low-end toys) to Sun (big iron) over the course of two decades and I've also owned bikes from 16 different brands over similar time frame.

Been on Apple since the IIc and I've seen and ridden Turners since the Burner (one of my first riding buddies had one). Didn't come to own a Turner until recently as the geometry/specs didn't agree with me until then.

That is a bad comparison--a generalization. It's about tools for the job.

The premise of this thread is a marketers dream of "cult" following. Want to be among the Saturn folks? Apple, Saturn,...etc follow this marketing cult.

That is an Apple innovation, crap keyboards, a year ago was the last one I found from google.

It overheats
You mean like powerbooks overheating and even in some cases catching fire - that another Apple innovation! In any case, not unique to either brand. Many will sterilize you if you use them on your lap too much:

page 106, under "Using Your MacBook Pro", Apple recommends, and I quote "Do not leave the bottom of your MacBook Pro in contact with your lap or any surface of your body for extended periods. Prolonged contact with your body could cause discomfort and potentially a burn"
The power cord is crapola
At least your adapter doesn't burn down the house

https://www.crunchgear.com/2008/05/09/apple-agrees-to-refunds-for-power-adapter-buyers/

Battery life is piss
Did you miss the note about Apple battery issues I listed? The most recent Lion battery problems affected all laptop makers and Sanyo and Sony took majors hits (OEM suppliers)

Its been rebuilt more times Maverick
Sounds like any notebook that has been abused, failure rates for Apple aren't better than any of the others:

All Laptops Break. Period.

This Consumer Reports chart ranks how quickly different laptops need repair. As you can see, Apple is in the middle, with Sony as the most reliable and Gateway the least. Surprisingly, on average, 17% of Apple laptops require serious repair.
I'd take a Mac any day I hate windows
Grass is greener to those that don't know any better. Mac are still at a price premium (not as much as the PPC days) and their warranty still sucks/require Applecare.

You can run Ubuntu, its free, and its kernel is more technologically superior than OSX or Vista's.

I'll take my chances, Ive had enough PCs and Ive enough friends with Macs too to risk it ya pay for it but Ive payed for it anyways so ya damned if ya do damned if ya don't I like to make my own mind up same with bike stuff! Course it also depends on what you want to use it for!

Simple but specific not blingy functional just not whats lying around in the shop, that's why I'm one of those difficult customers I want stuff that works for me cause I know my needs rarely do they have that! A Larrry or Dave or Esquire by the sounds of it will get that for ya no probs or issues that all ya ask no problems not much to ask is it.:D
