Are there special tools to remove and install a headset?

I am going to take my frame to the powdercoater tomorrow, so I need to take the bike apart. Do I need any special tools to take out the headset? If not, what should I use? I have a rubber mallet and I can get a wooden or plastic dowel from home depot.

Thanks

FYI, my LBS charges $8-10 to remove a headset and crown race and they'll do it while I wait. If you don't own the necessary tools, it's probably best to let someone who does do the work... especially if your bike has a nice headset installed. Why risk screwing it up?
Speedub.Nate's homemade headset tools

Be sure to have them mask off everyplace you don't want powdercoated...inside of BB, headset, seat tube, etc.
Hammer. Punch or piece of pipe to remove cups. 2 x 4 for the install. Good mechanical aptitude will keep you from ruining your frame.

Otherwise, use the special tools.
