My XT M8000 cranks were sold as 1x and that is how I'm using them, but they have threaded holes to add spacers and a granny chainring which would make them into 2x.
It seem that there are different part #s for the 1x/2x M8000 cranksets without chainrings which would insinuate they are different...??

Can anyone confirm they are the same crankset just with different chainrings? Specifically M8000 B1 vs B2? Q factor/bolt patterns are identical but chain lines appear to be different (changes to spider spacing... or chainring offset?)

My apology to the OP if this is a tangent/hijack.

Yes, the 1x and 2x versions of the XT FC-M8000 crankset are the same. Ditto for the SLX FC-M7000 crankset. Both cranksets are drilled for one or two chainrings.

However, the 1x chainrings are different than the 2x chainrings. The 1x chainrings also have an offset that decreases the chainline.

Finally, you can't compare the chainlines of a 1x or 2x directly. On a 1x, the chainline spec is for the single chainring, whereas on a 2x, the chainline spec is the average of the chainlines for the inner and outer chainrings.

Thanks. Use case here is pretty uncomplicated. I have a 1x Deore 6120 crankset, and am looking to upgrade. Found a 8120 set in 2x configuration in the right length. I'd just move my existing chainring over to the new set.
