Anyone try the Assegai Maxxgrip Exo+ yet? What is the rolling resistance like?

I'm currently trying to choose between the Maxxgrip EXO+, the MaxxTerra EXO+, or the Wild Enduro Gum-X. I want as much grip in the front as I can get, without entirely killing my ability to pedal.

About 35% of your weight is on the front tire, so about 35% of your rolling resistance is from the front tire alone.
If you're running the same wheels and tires yes. However, if you you're running a DH Assegai up front with a Aspen out back, the front RR% is definitely not .35 * rear rolling resistance. The weight contribution (independent of RR) to reduced efficiency also doesn't matter which end it's on. It will make the front harder to lift though.

neither of those things are true..

A faster-rolling tire in the rear doesn't impact the rolling resistance in the front, except that for the same speeds you'll be rolling faster with a faster rear tire--and increasing the resistance from the front tire.

And weight distribution absolutely matters with respect to overall Crr.

What terrain/conditions are you riding? And what other tires have you used and liked/not liked?

The Wild Enduro Front is a bit more of a wetter/looser soil tire. The Assegai is a bit more of a dry/loose over hard tire.

The MagiX WE Front has stiffer rubber, I find it works great on hardpack, better than Magic Mary for sure. Not sure about GumX...

On rolling resistance it matters more when you're going uphill and the rear is weighted much more heavily vs the front. In practice I find the contribution of the front to be about 20% and rear 80% just as a subjective "feel".

Right. It impacts the total resistance. The front to rear RR ratios are not fixed.
I think his point was that since 35% of your weight is on the front tire, that 35% of the potential rolling resistance is on the front. So, running the same tires it would be 35% of the RR. Obviously, if you run different tires f/r, the RR% is gonna change. His point is to not negate the effect of RR of the front tire. And on that I agree, too many people seem to think the RR of the front tire makes little to no difference.

I only have tried the 2.6 MaxxTerra, and right now it's on the back (don't ask), but you really, really, really have to pump it up a lot or it's super draggy, way more than a DHF even if the DHF is on the back. If you are doing shuttles or can deflate a bit at the top and reflate at the bottom, great, otherwise I'd put in at least 5-8 more floor pumps into the tire than normal, front or back. It does grip better than a DHF...but surprise surprise, it's slower on level hardpack if the psi is the same. Can't have it both ways unfortunately. Do I like it better than a DHF? Not really, I don't ride super gnarly stuff fast so a DHRII is much more my style but I would not be shocked if the Assegai Maxxgrip sucks on flat hardpack even more than the Maxxterra does.

I am running a MaxxGrip EXO+ Assegai on the front of my Druid. MaxxTerra EXO+ Dissector on the rear. Same tires in DD before that. Love both EXO+ and DD versions of this combo for different reasons. Eff RR. Let the good times roll!

How do you find the wear on the MaxxTerra Dissector? Most places I read that it wears fast are also running the MaxxGrip it launched with.
