If I'm going for a 2+ hour I usually have a gel shot, energy cubes or energy jelly beans half way through. I keep on seeing those annoying 5-hour energy commercials. Has anyone tried the stuff? How were the results?

I bought one out of a rest stop vending machine on the way home from a solo skiing trip. It did perk me up, but only lasted about 2 hrs. Long enough to get home . I also felt really jittery, like drinking to way too much coffee. I couldn't help but wonder what my 12 lead EKG would look like after drinking it.

Bought a 2-pack, took one before an urban assault (for me, that's all over town, taking care of business, not jumping!) that lasted 4-1/2 hours. The stuff lasted about 2- 2-1/2 hours, tops. But I did feel pretty good for those 2+....

I prefer nitric oxide, 3 tablets before exercise. Dilates the blood vessels, increases blood flow, feels wonderful! The pros are using/abusing viagra for the same result.

Do you want to be "alert" like caffiene, or do you want "energy"? These are not the same things. 5hr "energy"? Yeah right. You need complex carbs for energy like that, calories for sustained efforts. For those of us who go out on rides that exceed 5hrs, stuff like this is laughable. It's not "energy". Even gel-shots have to be used carefully, as there's so much sugar in them and it can be easy to then bonk after the sugar high. For longer-duration riding you shouldn't be trying to survive on em.

I usually go for double shot small latte or frappuccino with no sugar when I need a kick before a workout. Most days I feel fine, but there are days when I feel like I am going to fall sleep right there on the bench. Most energy drink give you that first jolt using sugar, try finding one (I don't even know if they exist) that has none but with guarana and caffeine, that might do the trick.

i dont drinik a lot of caffeine or anything and when i drink a dew or something with a lot i get the same results. i get tired and sluggish soon after drinkin it. i even have problems with my energy level every now and then. i get such a burst of energy or something that i sit adn cant stop moving, but i cant concentrate enough to do anything so i end up scratching my hands without realizing it. i got nice scars on both hands from it.

Its hard to see how nitric oxide would help with energy, in fact it probably saps energy. It dilates your veins causing less blood to return to your heart and go to where it is needed, your muscles, lungs and brain (debatable). :nono:

I prefer a couple rails before a ride with 2 or 3 bumps during and a couple of reds and three or four shots of vodka, after to come down. If it's a long ride, meth is key. Keeps me up, and lets me drink less water.

I think it just has B-12 and caffeine. I just use food though I do drink coffee in the mornings. I bet 4-5 of those would really wire someone up. I just don't like that unnatural feeling- kinda like fake boobs...don't like those either.

I haven't tried 5 hour energy but I tried something similar that has a ton of B-12 (zip fiz if you care). I didn't feel any extra energy but on the other hand I didn't get tired like I normally do either, I'm not sure if that was a coincidence or not but at the price they charge for energy drinks I'll just do without.

a cup of coffee, some fig newtons and a bananna are all you need
. . .oh that's so naughty! No way I'm ever setting up camp next to you!

Joking aside. . . a friend gave me some energy-drink from Amway called eXcess - an eight ounce can has 4800% RDA of B12 - holly crap!

. . .also remember reading/hearing that a small percentage (12%-15%) of the world population doesn't have the enzymes to properly break down vitamin B therefore making many energy drinks nearly useless (the only kick coming from the caffeine and other additives).

Secret to boundless energy: Get enough sleep, fill your tank with healthy food frequently, become more fit, find motivation (zen, anger, pain, joy, fear, queen)... this separates the pros from the joes, men from the boys, wheat from the... ok I'm done now. Hope this helps:thumbsup:

Umm 12-15% of the world is a good bunch of people. B12 deficiency makes you anemic, among other less desirable effects. Taking extra B12 beyond what you need in your diet is already useless.
