I went for about a thirty miler this morning at Blue Diamond. I started at BD and rode up to the Late Night lot, through the upper tunnel, up the powerline rd. up Puke Hill, around the Dead Horse loop, up the Escalator, out towards Wilsons Tank then followed a singletrack quite a ways past Wilsons Tank. I was following this singletrack trail that was marked with brown stakes, it started at the second overlook where the map sign is. Anyone know this trail? It kind of went south paralleling the hillside and then the dirt road for a while.

I only ran into a handfull of riders all day long which was nice. Alot of the trails out there are getting pretty torn up, I was surprised that the trails at Bootleg are in better shape. I saw one guy laying in the middle of the trail on that rough section just before the little climb before you start the Hurl Trail. The dude looked like he had been dropped out of the sky with a bike and landed there, he said he was "nautious" but OK, so I said OK and bailed. He could'nt have been more than 1.5 miles from BD, I think he was on a rental bike? I can't imagine that laying in the middle of the dirt trail in the hot sun was going to help him any... Strange indeed.

Me and the wife rode Bootleg this morning. We ran into two dudes coming down Girl Scout. Nice breeze throughout the ride.

I went to the pool and did the family thing today. I'll be out at Cottonwood early Monday morning. I'm gonna try to put some miles in before it gets too hot.

The trail you were following sounds like Bonnie and Clyde.
Yeah, I think it was labled "BC" so I was in the vicinity of the beginning. After looking at the BARTA may I think I was riding the un-named trail at the very south end of the map that loops back onto itself. I did'nt go down the hill into the Bonnie and Clyde "valley" where Wilsons Tank is... that's certain death in this heat after 9am, don't want to get lost down there and run out of water. Besides, it looks like all dirt road riding?

Thanks.

Wow Navajo Lake looks alot nicer this past weekend then when I was there. Getting out of town is always a great idea this time of year if you can manage it.

I got out later than I intended this morn but rode up the Hurl anyway (no I was not the dude laying in the trail). I think I stirred up a bee's nest coming back down the BD side. Didn't see or hear anything until I was past this one rock/brush area about shoulder height. Just after it I heard a real angry buzzing, turned to see about 6 bees darting around and took off before I saw anymore.

I was out for a 7am start at cottonwood. Just did a quick hour loop from BD out to the BBQ lot. Viagra, then back to BD. Dragging ass the whole time and my body JUST started to wake up at the end. Shoulda stayed out longer at that point but I had some more work to do that day.

I also saw cars at the trailhead but only one rider the whole time. If it wasn't so hot/sunny it would be cool. :D

I had a nice ride this morning (Monday). I did about 20 miles out at Cottonwood. Weather was perfect and there was a little breeze. On the way back I snapped one of my seat rails. After I finished rigging that I was on my way back to BD when my front tire washed out on me and I took a little digger. Nothing major just a few scratches. Worst part is I ripped my favorite pair of Pearl Izumi Lycras.:madman: Yeah I dropped the F bomb a few times after that. Those things are expensive. Other than that it was a great ride. I ran into JT from JT's Bike shop a few times out there. Actually there were quite a few riders out there today.

I guess I'm not the only one sampling the dirt lately.

I have been noticing that due to the dry conditions and riders locking up their brakes and running off the outside of corners that most of the corners of the more well used trails are somewhat dangerous at speed. I get at least a couple big front end "pushes" every time I ride out there now due to the conditions. In alot of places coming down towards BFR for example, if you run wide exiting a corner your done. There is one left hander near the bottom of Viagra that I consistently push the front through going over 20 mph, it scares me everytime. I hope it rains really really hard out there sometime soon.

This is why lately I've been searching out the path less traveled. Glad you did'nt get hurt too bad.

norris, im pretty sure the trails or trail you are talking about just paralell the cottonwood valley road all the way to goodsprings, singletrack the whole way to goodsprings and back on both sides of the road.those trails were created by wildhorses. p.s. if you do ride all the way to goodsprings, be prepared for a long slow cimb back to red valley

dont quote me on the trails being on the left and right side of the road now that ive thought about it i only remember the left side of the road having singletrack. the day i did it was definately a long day. once you go past wilson you will not see anybody, but is definately fun, make sure to bring enough water and food. dont want to here about a SINGLESPEEDER getting dehydrated.lol
