Anyone know about the headset/headtube on 2010 Glory's? (Faith/Reign X as well)

Just received my new 2010 Glory and am confused as to what the headset size is. I had a 2009 Glory and ran a Hope 1.5 Step Down Headset. This year the lower cup is way bigger than 1.5, it measures more like 2.3 inches across! The Faith and Reign X also have the same headtube but use conehead forks meaning a slightly different lower bearing.

What's the size called and am I limited to the FSA which is supplied with the frame? So far haven't found someone at Giant who can give me answer!

OK so the headset on the Giants is called a "zerostack". The Glory, Faith and Reign X all use a 1-1/8"-1.5" taper. You have a couple of options, none of which is super easy. Cane Creek sells individual pieces (upper and lower cups) so that you can design your own system. BTI stocks them and you can get them at any good bike shop.

If you are running an 1-1/8th steerer, this is the page for your bottom cup https://www.bti-usa.com/public/item/DC1017

If you are running a tapered steerer, this is the page for your bottom cup https://www.bti-usa.com/public/item/DC1015

This is the link for the upper cup https://www.bti-usa.com/public/item/DC1003

Your local shop should be able to help you further. I believe that e.13 makes a reducer you can press into the frame. Haven't installed/used one of these yet though. Hope that helps

yes and no...the 44mm top cup will work, but not the bottom.

The new Glory and Reign X use SEMI-INTEGRATED HEADSETS. in short, no regular 1 1/8 or 1.5 headset will fit those frames.

You need to use the cups provided with the frame and use angular bearings.
or a 44mm zero stack top cup (like the one ekoostick pointed out above)
or get a Chris Kind inset for the top. (don't think they have a 1.5 inset yet)

Yeah I was in the same boat my faith frame showed up at the shop and I had the lower cup from a king 1.5 to put in it but as you know that doesn't fit. I'm running a 1 1/8th fork so you have a couple of options. 1 you can order a reducer crown race right from giant that is what I went with it. Ran ten bucks with shipping. 2 chris king makes a complete headset that well fit it's the inset for the E-2 headtube standard. 3 gravity/FSA make a few headset for the E-2 as well there is a version of the "pig" headset that will also work for running a 1 1/8th fork and the SX pro well work for a tapered fork. FSA has a detailed spec. list you can down load from there website that has all of the info on it, but they weren't able to help me with a reducer option when i called them even though they supplied the stock headset to giant. There may be more options too just look for headsets that fit the E-2.

Well as I said I have a Hope Step Down so the top is not a problem it's just that the bottom is bigger than any 1.5 headset I've ever come across.

1. By a reducer crown race what do you mean? Surely you still have to run Giant (FSA's) bottom cup as it is too large for the Chris King.

2. I'm not sure I understand correctly, are you saying that this is the new E2 standard headtube? I always thought that the previous frame I had was an E2 headtube, a 1 1/8 Internal top with a 1.5" bottom.
Are you also saying that there is a reducer available to press in a normal 1.5" headset cup?
OK I now think I've got it having re-read the canecreek.com link. Thanks Acadian.

The lower headtube is a 1.5 Semi-Intergrated (Zero Stack) lower cup with an internal diameter of 55.95mm not the standard 1.5" diameter of 49.61mm.

Looks like its only a Cane Creek Frustum ZS that will fit (though with a specific crown race for 1 1/8 forks) other than the FSA which Giant have now sent me which doesn't seem to be available seperately but must be an Orbit ZS 1.5" with a gert big crown race.
Another headset standard, just what was needed! It doesn't even seem necessary with a 1 1/8 fork as theres enough room for a bearing and a zero stack headset as it is, my ZS 1.5" Hope was doing a fine job. Perhaps Giant did it so that they could make the same headtube for Glory's and Faiths even though with a 1 1/8 steerer fork on Glory's it isn't necessary. The Reign X headtube is a little thinner in material but stll the same sizing.
@Mycruiserhasabottleopener

So with a standard 1 1/8" steerer (non-tapered) will this fit in the provided integrated headset that comes with the frame? Or is a replacement headset required if you wish to use a 1 1/8" steerer?

I guess the Glory 0 comes with a Fox 40, which is 1 1/8" throughout right?

I am buying a Glory 2010 frame, and currently have a Totem 1 1/8 to put in it.
Paul, it will go right on, the Glory frame comes with the 1-1/8" crown race.
Hi Phatfreeheeler....
Great news, thanks for the reliable info as always!
