The newest bike I own is from 1997 and I rarely ride it. I do most of my off road riding on an 80's cyclocross bike or an 80's MTB. Sure people look at me funny but I can look at them funny in return when I pass the masses riding Superlights, Blurs, or Fuels. You shouldn't feel like an outcast; you should be proud of your vintage ride and the skills it takes to ride through things that people just plow through without a thought on modern rigs.
being different, an "outcast".. is half the fun. the other half being your bike rides sweet.
would you feel funny if you drove a 65 benz cabriolet? i would feel like a king..
You should page ssMike he has a bunch of Vintage bikes and lives in SD. I live in SD but, I haven't found my dream vintage frame yet. My SS has a westpine hub (kinda vintage)and my cruiser has vintage parts. That's as retro as I get right now.

See you out there,

hey gordon. where in SD? ride one of my bikes. i have enough vintage mountain bikes for a bonafied small peleton. you me and ssmike could start a once or twice a month vintage ride sparking a whole retro-dork revolution! yeah, we'll have groupies and we will be called the "founding fathers of SD retro riding! we could laugh at the dual squishy mtb bike masses. you never know, maybe though my bikes you will find what vintage bike you will want to buy in the future? -sky
lately i've ridden my Alpinestars Ti Mega the most as it happens.

How about in Northern CA? I ride my vintage bikes farily often (how often depends on how you define vintage). Rumphy and I ride together regularly, and often we're both out on vintage bikes.

The looks you get on a bike with bullmoose bars is akin to the look you get while climbing on a single speed.
Whoa....now. Settle down over there....

I am in Encinitas. I know ssmike rides Flightline/ Calaveras weekly, he works in Vista close by. I have a friend with a Paramount Series 90, that is retro in my books (mid 90's frame, Suntour/ Ritchey components), that I could ride. PM me next time you are going to ride. If you ever see a SyCip in North County it's probably me.
nor cal ha. well, i will be heading to bend oregon and then to burning man in nevada in three weeks. possibly if im going past the bay area we can meet up for a quick jaunt somewhere. i'll get back to you when i know my driving rought and time schedule. do you guys meet up at like sea otter or other events with the retro. i know ive sold quite a few things to rumpfy, but i sell so much on ebay i cant rememer all the items. he might have got one of my yeti ultimates but im not sure. -sky

We do have a mini-gathering at Sea Otter. There may have 8-9 retro bikes there. If you consider a '97 Yeti ARC vintage (I don't), then I even raced a vintage bike in the Sea Otter XC race.

If you get the chance to stop by enroute to the burn, definitely do. We have great trails to ride! I can ride most any day.
oops. I ride a 1992 DB Overdrive once in awhile.

As Laffeuax said...we did try for a retro meet at this year's Sea Otter. ssMike made it out too!
Here's a link to the pics from it:

Laffeaux and I ride our vintage often (although he's got waaay more than I do!).
We also put down a weekend vintage ride that went very well....several vintage bikes we swapped back and forth on.

My 93 Slingshot did race time in the CCCX this year and will (should) full time next year T-disc and all.

Don't feel like an odd ball at all!

And hey!...what's your eBay handle? I'm curious what I bought from you! :D

i go by the ebay handle of vdubbusrider. i've been selling alot of road bikes lately but for a while there i was a little hard up on cash and i was selling a bunch of nice classic mtb stuff. as long as i can afford it i try to hord it. everything else is meaningless and i have no problem e-baying all of it. now that im on some of these message boards i will be able to keep track of where my good shiz-nit goes! it seams to be the same people buying the retro stuff of of me. i know ive sold at least 2 or three things from you. i keep records of my sales for a year but i dont keep info on the buyer so i can go back and look to see what was once mine and is now riding the norcal trails. i recently found one of my items in the first flight site. its was an old schwinn 24" cruiser that was made into a mountain bike before moutnain bikes were around. i got it at a yard sale from a buy that built it in the mid 70's. a true klunker! to top it off it actaully rode very well. it loved to jump. jeff is also bought my nos 1989 monster fat frame. i wish i still had both of them but at least they are in good hands. -sky

Too funny. That's the first thing I did was check my records...
You've got a bunch of road stuff....do you have any Accu-Trax forks with disc tabs? :p

Cool website. Very clean and some cool bikes to boot!
Laffeaux has the same XO...not all that common IIRC.

i sure do. they are nos and the disc tabs are for the pro-stop vintage disk brakes. i believe they were designed by mountain cycle in san luis obispo california. yeti and mountain cycle got together to make this rigid fork the accept the disk. mountain cycle also had that "suspenders" inverted suspension fork that used the disk brake since there was no other way to mount a brake to that fork.

Nice looking XO! Mine doesn't ridden everyday, but I have been ridding it more lately.

The SS Poprad is sweet too.
