I'm looking at a 2016 horsethief and was wondering if there have been any reliability issues with the split pivot rear end? A few years ago a friend had one of the trek/GF bikes with the "ABB" (i think that's what it was called) pivot and he went through several rear ends when the bearings would fail.

I'm currently on a yeti SB66 and niner sir9. Looking for a cross between the two and the salsa seems like a good mix. Most of the numbers, other than the head angle are very similar to the yeti.

Thanks for any info!

No issues on my '14 horsethief. One minor quibble: the axle pivot has a creak that develops when it loosens a little bit and goes away when i snug it up. actually curious if there are any suggestions for long term-snugness... I've taken the bolts out and applied blue locktite, maybe it's time for red?

Have a '15 HT with a season on it. Did zero maintenance on the pivots during the entire riding season last year. Didn't purposely neglect them, just no noise, or rough feeling leading me to believe they needed attention. Tore all the pivots apart last month just to take a look. All the bearings were in fine shape. Cleaned everything up, applied grease where necessary, and re-assembled. Very pleased with the pivots. Last two bikes were both VPP (Intense & Santa Cruz). I spent so much time working on pivots during the riding season with both of those bikes, compared to the Salsa it's embarrassing. Hoping for another season free of tightening, dis-assembling/cleaning, etc.

Thanks for the info guys. Still going back and forth on the decision to buy or not. Shop has a medium aluminum that seems to fit well.
