Any Psycle Werks riders here?

2909 Views 11 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Pisgah
I did a search and found only a few references to PW, yet there are numerous glowing reviews of the framesets.

I ride a Wild Hare that has been great, but is starting to show some wear.

Any other P-Werks owners here?

I used to be.

Had one for ~1 year. Absolutely hated the bike, but you're right, there are a lot of glowing reviews; that's why I bought one! It was the flavor of the month a few years ago, but I really don't know if they make them any more.

I have a Turner XCE now and I think it's night and day better in almost every respect. If you're looking for a new frame in the same ballpark of travel, the Supergo Burners for 950 are a really great deal.

I've had mine since '99 and love it. I chose it over a Truth and SC Superlight, and have never regreted it.

I just replaced the lower pivot and bushings. Rainbow Bicycle Co. in Laguna Beach is handling parts for them. I don't know if they are still building frames.

I've ridden a friend's Burner and didn't care for it, although the set up was too small and probably not enough air in the shock, so maybe not a fair comparison.

I really like the 13" BB on the Hare and am actually considering a different type of bike next. I'm debating between an Id, Moment and 5 Spot.

Wondering if anyone who has moved on from P.Werks - what did you buy - how does it compare ?
Wow, I forgot about this post. It may have neen my frst ever on the forums.

I have moved on from the Hare and am now riding a 5" Ventana El Saltamontes and a 4" Turner Burner.

The Burner (one that fits me) I would rate equal to if not slightly below the PW in terms of ride quality. If I could only have gotten a 4" swing link for the PW.

The Ventana however is a clear step ahead in every category other than climbing than the Hare.

Interestingly, Ventana and Psycle Werks were tied very closely together as Roy did the CNC work for Sherwood and Sherwood designed the Wild Hare for Roy.

Definitely look to Ventana if you want something to live up to the build quality and durability of the PW.

Specs

Does anyone have the Wild Hare specs?

Or know how to get them?

I'm actually building up an unused frame made a few years ago and should have printed the page out from their website, but I wasn't expect it to go down for maintanence... and it's been over a month now that it's been down, I wonder if it is even going to come back up.

I have some of the specs as I was getting close to getting all my componenets when it went down, I guess the only info I really need right now, is what size front der I need to get. I am planning on getting the 1 1/8" Sram X-Gen, but I guess it could potentially be the 1 1/4 or 1 3/8 sizing, just wanted to check to see if anyone had the info. Thanks.
I've got a WH. It needs a good home since I build my own frames now. I actually worked there one summer back when I was in college (1998, I think--I remember Blink 182 just got big then since KROQ was constantly on the stereo).

It's a 1 3/8" FD. I think the X Gen is made for all 3 sizes (shims), though I don't have any personal experience. It's 27.2 seatpost, BTW, which might be the other thing you need to know. Oh, and AFAIK, you'll need the only style 22mm Hayes for the rear brake caliper.
thanks for the info guys, I appreciate it.

I've almost got mine all built up, just have to put on my cables and brakes. I bought bb7s, I hope they'll work with it since one of the above posts indicates it's hayes compatible only, but it's one of the more recent models so hopefully it will take my avids.

I'm pretty psyched on it since it looks pretty mean. I can't wait to ride it.

but if anyone does still have the spec list, I would really appreciate if you contacted me.

I have new spare parts for psycle werks bikes for all you poor saps still riding these bikes. If someone wants to buy parts, log in and let me know.
Rode a WH for 3 years. Great quality frame for the price. Had to replace the IGUS bushings every 8 months. Long wheelbase was great for high speed runs but had to force the tight turns. Good memories.

I have a new one as long as they are the same as the Wildhares. You would have to look into that.
