I have 2.8 Rekons right now, and I'm really not feeling them. I like the feel of the Nobby Nic 2.8s, but they're not always available, and one of them I got wobbles so badly (it's an older version) that it rubs against the chainstays.

Is there any other plus tires people recommend that are NOT Maxxis?

What don’t you like about them? Ever try the Bontranfer XR3 and XR4?

About Maxxis? They're slow, and their sidewalls suck (waiting for the flames to come now...).

I've tried in 2.8: Rekons, DHR2, DHF.
I've also tried in 2.8s: Schwalbe Nobby Nic, Spesh Butcher

Never tried the Bontrager. The XR3 looks good for the back, but the XR4 looks like it's missing some intermediatary knobs, and that's not what I'm looking for. Definitely open to try them in a 2.8, but I'm not caring about other sizes since this post is on the plus wheel size.

Does it matter if they weigh more than a 12.50 35/15?
Here's the thing I do notice: I run a 2.6 Magic Mary SuperTrail (Orange) and 2.6 Nobby Nic SpeedGrip (blue), and those tires are heavier than the Maxxix I ran, but are also much faster rolling, and don't feel nearly as harsh.

With 2.8 tires, I don't see anything really low weight, so what would you consider heavy or light for plus tires?

I run Schwalbe Hans Dampf & Nobby Nic in 27.5x2.8. They size up well, have good grip, and roll well for a plus tire. Not sure if its an install issue, but they do seem prone to wobbling on the rim. I tried Maxxis DHF & DHR2 in 2.8" and sliced a sidewall on an unknown object on my first ride. To date, that is the only tire I have ever sliced in either plus or standard sizes.

I've been running 3.0 Teravail Coronados almost exclusively for the past year. Tons of float, but not the best when it comes to cornering traction. Tried Nobby Nics (2.8) but couldn't seem to find the sweet spot for PSI (on a rigid bike). Next on my list to try are 3.0 Chunk (f) and 2.8 McFly (r) and some 2.8 WTB Rangers.
