Any idea what "Karate Monkey" means?

If you google for it, prior mentions of the term do turn up I think.

I don't know, but I do love google's adwords campaigns

The term Karate Monkey comes from an episode of the Sienfeld Show. I believe it was a term coined from Krammer.

I think you're talking about the show News Radio with the late Phil Hartman from back in the 90's. Not sure they named the bike from that episode, but it was not Seinfeld. It was News Radio.

That's what I thought of when first heard then named the Surly bike "Karate Monkey". Was a pretty popular download back in the day.

If they named it after that video, it should be called the Karate Chimp instead.

The name does come from News Radio, it's actually from my favorite half hour of TV ever made. The plot involved the memoirs of Jimmy James, which are translated to Japanese and then back to english. The effect is like what you'd find in a bad set of stereo instructions, quazi-jibberish.

Here's the fictional exerpt from JJ's fictional book, 'Jimmy James, Macho Business Donkey Wrestler’:

I had a small house of brokerage on Wall Street… many days no business come to my hut… my hut… but Jimmy has fear? A thousand times no. I never doubted myself for a minute for I knew that my monkey strong bowels were girded with strength like the loins of a dragon ribboned with fat and the opulence of buffalo… dung. …Glorious sunset of my heart was fading. Soon the super karate monkey death car would park in my space. But Jimmy has fancy plans… and pants to match. The monkey clown horrible karate round and yummy like cute small baby chick would beat the donkey.”
