Yes there is the GEO in Weirton, WV by the new walmart, miles and miles of solid trails. Barkcamp in St. Clairsville, OH ... actually going there to do some trail work tomorrow. Great trails there as well. There are also trails to hit doing an urban Wheeling ride, only locals could show you. Any questions about group rides send me a pm. Also Grandvue Park in Moundsville, WV but we have some work to there.
Geo?

What is the GEO? If you don't mind me asking...
I'd be interested in meeting some local riders this spring. My wife and I live in Shadyside and are looking to purchase our first bikes in a couple weeks. We've been talking to the owners of Quick Service Bicycle Shop in Martins Ferry, which is where we'll be buying our Trek's, and they had mentioned the trails up in Weirton. Once I get some experience and build up my stamina, I'd love to get up there and ride...

I was at Quickservice today, good people there. Dave Crow is the shop bike guru and can hook you up with a great deal.
This is a follow up to the original question regarding trails in the Wheeling area. I will be going there for a family reunion in two weeks and will be looking for riding opportunities since I am not a golfer. Are there trails in this area or will it be best to travel over to the Pittsburgh area? Are there any bike shops in the area that might have some suggestions about what trails to ride?
Thanks,
Bob

Go to Quickservice bike shop over in Bridgeport, Ohio. Right across the river from Wheeling. There are trails in Moundsville which is 20 minutes away from Wheeling, located at Grand Vue Park. There is also a trail system at Barkcamp State Park in Morristown, Ohio, which is 30 minutes away. Ask for Dave Crow at the bike shop. He organizes weekly group trail rides in the Wheeling area.
Grandvue is not ready to ride, I've been working on it and will be out there saturday working. The only close places is Barkcamp and the G.O. I'll be out at the Wayne all day Sunday. If your in for a long all day epic ride on the best trails in the valley pm me!
As soon as this weather clears up I am looking to do some serious riding. I am still kind of a greenhorn when it comes to technique and tend to scrape and crash my way through trails, but I am really wanting to learn. Anyone who is interested in taking some all-day or ride until you die trips should drop me a line on here. I only have my mtb so I am limited in that area but I am getting tired of riding on the roads and have read too much about the trials of riding alone. Weekends are my primary riding times, though I do frequent the walking-path from Elm Grove to Hannibal Dam.
Looks like it's probably 25 - 30 miles from Wheeling, but I'd definitely check out the trails at Bavington (Hillman State Park) just east of route 18 and north of route 22. Lots of nice trails out there, some of which handles the rain very well.

There are maps out there - check PORC maybe. If all else fails PM me and I'll email a copy.
