Honestly, i have no idea. But if Chico is close enough, you might wanna look into that option, i do believe they have a decent riding scene. At the very least you could make a trip to Sierra Nevada brewery :thumbsup:
The big issue with Downieville is there is still snow at the saddle and probably getting more snow today. Look up Mount Hough/South Park trails in Quincy (probably what RipRoar mentioned above). I don't know anything about them beyond SBTS is working on them and they've done a lot of the work in D-Ville and the Lakes Basin.
A few years ago I met a couple guys from Quincy riding in Tahoe who told me there was some freeride stuff with features they helped build that was just up out of town on the ridge to the south. I think they said you could take fire roads right out of town to shuttle it. Never checked it out but I will probably bring a bike to HSMF this year and explore.
