I am thinking about a trip out there and was wondering if there was some mtb trails mixed in with the jeep trails.

Not much that I've seen around Ouray, but there are trails near Ridgway. A fellow who has a bike shop there posts here sometimes. The 4x4 roads would be a nightmare on a bike - think sitting in the granny gear for a couple of hours with jeeps passing inches away every 10 seconds.

There are some good trails up on the Uncompahgre Plateau that would take maybe an hour to get to. Telluride is about an hour away and Junction, Gunnison, Crested Butte and Durango are within a couple of hours.

Telluride

Ouray does not have much in the way of riding trails. Telluride is an hour away and some some of the best singletrack in colorado if you are willing to work for it. Imogene pass also connect ouray and telluride(around a three hour drive of 5 hour brutal ride). If you want to pass ride to Ouray I suggest Black bear to red mountain down to ouray(killer downhill) over imogene.
In telluride there is hundreads of miles of alpine singletrack

A bit late to the game in terms of replying ... but for the archives sake:
There are a ton of trails around Ouray. Most everything is rather vertical. The trail group just finished a perimeter trail around Ouray, most of it is rideable. There are a few sections you have to risk injury or push your bike through tunnels that are 5ft high, etc.
