Another way to void warranty.

We had a local guy, as of recently, crack his Super Caliber frame. He has cracked a total of three fisher frames over the years, and all done not because he is a stupid rider that beats cross country bikes on trail riding, He does it because he puts on rediculous mileage and just stress cracks the frames eventually. However, the last time that he sent one in, it almost didn't go through. He admited to the shop boys that he raced on it, and apparently the trek rep says that they normally don't warranty raced frames! He said the don't because, "The stress of racing is significantly higher then normal every day riding on trails. So when someone races they consider that to be beyond the normal riding listed in warranty." Come to find out there are alot of companies that won't warranty a race frame! So, just something to keep in mind when you crack a frame, avoid that R word, just say it cracked through regular riding.

Check the Trek Warranty. I just read the whole thing and there is not one word about racing voiding a warranty. I think I'd avoid mentioning racing to Trek, but racing should NOT void the Warranty.

If Trek refused to honor my warranty because it was raced, they'd be talking to my lawyer in short order. The bikes are advertised as being raced XC by Roland Green and others AND there is not one word about racing voiding the warranty.

In addition, most of the XC races that I've seen or been involved with are far less stressful to a bike than the trail riding that I do almost everyday.

Don't let Trek off of the hook if they deny warranty due to racing!
Regular "trail riding" as trail riding is considered these days, may also void the warranty. And I never said that the warranty specifically stated racing, the rep said it was considered to be outside normal use. That is more or less stated in the warranty. And in a way, I think he is right. I do push myself and my bike just that much harder when I'm racing. I also work with morgages so I know how much legal wording can be twisted to mean whatever you want it to with in reason. However, I agree with you as well. Infact I agree with you more. I more believe that I've been tricked if they honestly don't warrant my bike if it ever cracked. Roland Green raced it for a year, why did his hold up and yet they won't warrant mine if it breaks? It is quite simple though, if you ever crack the frame, simply fail to say you raced it. That's what I'm going to do. Obviously don't mention any huge drops, stupid wrecks or other stupid things you may have done to it. We had a guy rejected for warranty because of some of the idiotic things he just happened to metion to the rep while he inspected the frame. Keep your mouth shut, state how it happened in the clearest way possible.

I would also like to say that it is quite possible my local rep might be a total moron. He's said somethings that make me question his intelligence, but he has been doing this for a while. I'm not going to take the chance though.

Just the hanger?

YOu broke the der. hanger? That is not covered in the warranty. The good news is they are like $20 or less.
Yeah, that one isn't surprising. The one thing I can gurantee for any warrantyf is that if it is a cheap fix and it could possibly be liad about very easily, they will shoot you down without the trek rep actually seeing it break, or one of the shop hands. It sucks, but its true.
