I have always owed XC race bikes hardtail( now gone) and a 3" race bike and use the race tires that go with them. I parted out the hardtail becauce my 3" travel race bike pedals so great I never rode the hardtail anymore. I am just finishing a 5"x 5" bike and looking for a larger tire maybe a 2.35 with a resonable weight ~ < 650 grams to run in the front range, The biggest tire I have run in the past is a 2.25 nobby Nic and a Michelin 2.2 ALL Mountain any thoughts?? Thanks !!

WTB Weirwolf 2.3 is a great tire for around here.
Kenda Nevegal 2.3 too.
My favorite is Maxxis Minion DHF and DHR 2.35 w/ kevlar bead, its probably the burliest of the tires mentioned here. Absolutely awesome tread pattern.

Mutano 2.4... experiment w/tire pressure, its critical with this one. Mid- 500g weight, and VERY low rolling resistance. Great trailriding/epic tire...

Kenda 2.35 stick-e BG/Nevegal... feels like your rolling thru mud the rolling resistance is so high. Good on dh, and awesome grip climbing w/granny

Minion 2.35 dhr replaced Nev after Nev started loosing lugs :madmax: I went w/ 60a rubber, lasts longer, rolls faster... wire bead dh version is just over 800g, not too bad.

I'd get Minion 60a rear / 42a front 2.35s for max performance, Mutanos save a lot of energy on the trial, but will sacrafice a small amout of dh ability. Still haven't tried the Schwalbes, which some seem to really like.
