To answer the question, "Why would I spend $700 on a wheelset I could destroy in one careless second?", Mavic has has come up with a two year warranty. "Accidents, unintentional shocks or crashes which occur while riding are NOT excluded from the MP3 warranty." I understand the cost is about 10% of the purchase price.

I may not (okay, will not) run out to buy a new Mavic wheelset, but it is an interesting offer nonetheless.

Isn't that the truth? The then non-biker GF once bought me a pair of Assos bibs, asking the shop she visited "what's the best?" I had them about six months when a seam came apart-when I attempted to return them all I got was a huge runaround about how hard the distributor for "this top-end European stuff" was to deal with, like that was my problem. At some point in the conversation I mentioned that I had several sets of PI bibs that had better than 5 years of use and plenty of mileage still left. He then had the gall to say "maybe you should stick with PI then."

Needless to say I'm tickled pink to have steered thousands of dollars of business away from this shop.

They have been offering this for a while. The turn around times I have heard reports of have not been encouraging. You will need a "spare" wheelset to keep rolling.
