Anone know the weight difference between mid and long cage XO carbon der. pulley and spring? I am converting 1X9 and want to possibly not have to put any kind of a chain guide when running a single speed chain ring up front. This is the part I am talking about.

3x9=long, 2x9=mid, 1x9=short

for 1x9, you should run the short cage ONLY. actually, you can run a road bike derailleur. since you're rolling SRAM, you can run the SRAM Red.

on a hardtail, it's possible you can get away without using a chainguide. that's how i do it on mine. on a full suspension, if there is chain growth then you can forget that. the way to go there would be a rohloff upper chainguide. i roll one of those on my turner and it works exactly as advertised.
