I talked to them and they said chemical etching is NOT required on frames that were previously powdercoated. Chemical etching was the part that could mess up the pivot bore tolerances. Greg at Turner also said this step was not required.

I am planning on sending a hardtail frame to absolute finishing so I should be able to tell you how it comes out shortly.

I am no expert on anodizing so I'm just posting what I'm told- dangerous since I've gotten conflicting answers! I am trying to avoid getting into the "he said, she said" routine, but here goes.
Both Greg at Turner and Bulldog (the camo ano guy) have said that etching is not required for parts that were previously powdercoated. Both were pretty enouraging about the whole process. Ssinga, I take this to mean that a rear end that was previously ano'd would need to be chemically etched- bad news.
Jerret at Turner was much more cautious- without getting into any details he just said he would hate to see my fine RFX get screwed up just for a color change. He was also very clear that Turner would not be involved or responsible should anything go wrong.
As for my conversation with the woman at custom metal finish, there was so much background noise that I don't really trust anything that came out of that phonecall.
Meanwhile I've also been debating about pulling my steelset out. My shop buddy who has more experience than any of us (he did all the paint, alignment & finishing at Davidson) said no problems there. So will probably ano, just waiting till after the holidays.

Man its just so tough, cause a F-up would be costly in so many ways, where a PC is easy and no risk. I only want to do the front triangle anyway so that would eliminate the chem. etch risk. But it makes my ass clinch just thinking about the chance of funking up my beloved Spot frame.
