The LBS that I purchased my BMC Fourstroke 03 build through recommended Hope Pro II hubs. I've been riding them for a year, and while they seem like good hubs, the noise drives me nuts. I hate the sound the rear makes. I've tried to get used to it but can't, so I'm replacing the hubs with something else.

An option I'm considering is going with the 2011 American Classic Disc 130/225 hubs, but I want to know how silent/noisy the rear is.

Anybody use this hub and can give me this info?

Some grease in your Hope hubs will quiet them down quite a bit.

I would try that before writing them off.

Reading through the forums here, I've seen a lot of people saying grease quiets them down and a lot of people saying it doesn't. No harm in giving it a try, I guess.

It'll have to quiet them down a pretty significant amount, though, for me to consider keeping them.

Just use a real thick grease, then it sure will quiet them down, it's just a matter if it's enough to suit your taste.

I have done it myself on my hubs, as I also found the noise to be annoying.

the american classic hubs are extremely quiet. it's a different type of engagement mechanism all together, and there's no clackety clack of pawls clicking past engagements.

+2 on the quietness of AC 225 hubs - they might be amongst the most shush hubs on the market right now

freewheeling buzz is alot quieter than DT 190's with 36 star rats (but not hollow 18 pt.), also DT 240s, XTR, XT & Mavic Crossmax
