Seriously with this done up I never looked at another FS again. Having heavy AM and lighter "XC" kit with the components lying around lets me reconfigure this kick @zz bike into 3 - 4 running configs from 30.5lb to ~37lb depending on the trail of the day...
Long travel hardtail is of course another story.... a Blue Pig is on its way as I speak

I bought my dream bike used so price wasn't much of an issue. I'm too much of a wimp to really need this much bike and my 5 Spot that I've had since 03 climbs better and can handle 95% of what I'll do so I shouldn't have bought this but I dig it so much I just dropped the money. I ride it usually once a week so I'm getting my money's worth.
just bought mine and it arrives Wednesday...after having 1 million and three bikes over the past few years, and how I have come to define "AM" FOR ME, based not necessarily on one of the thousand ways the bike mags and/or bike shops and/or bike manufacturers define AM (though I am sure some of their definitions match up with mine), a sub 30 lb somewhat slack hardtail with robust parts is the definite ticket.
Will be a bit slower in some sections than on my FS trailbike, faster on other sections, but overall, prefer the HT, to include the fun factor FOR ME over a FS bike, any FS bike for that matter (would not have said that a few years ago). On the other hand, I also have the best FS trailbike, AM bike, whatever you wanna call it that I have ever owned/ridden and am keeping it for sure so it's really a moot point fortunately for me to worry about a single dream bike.
