wtf? apparently governor corzine is holding the state hostage to pass his new budget and tax increases. if he doesn't get it all state services, including all nj state parks, will be closed as of wednesday. i'm sure i don't have the whole story right but that's the gist of it...

sure hope it doesn't come to that.

CORZINE = FLORIO JR.

That's what we get for voting a self centered rich bastard into office. Good for ya! I didn't vote for him but maybe now our parks will be spared from the thundering herds of racers.

Wow thats messed up.

good thing Round Valley has the "other" parking lot.
you know, i was thinking the same thing. if the parks are closed and all the rangers are sent home, what's to prevent you from just going anyway? most of the parks have multiple entrance points and do not have gated parking. just looking for ways around this problem as it's becoming more and more likely that it's going to happen, which would just about be the most suck-worthy thing to ever happen to mountain biking in the state...

Not nearly as bad as the permanent closure to biking in South Mountain. I'll give that my vote for the most suck-worthy thing. I used to love riding there.

So Dan why don't you just use you real name since we all know who you are? I think all your friends know who you are by now, so no chance of losing them, right?

So how are things in central Jersey? And when are you going to come out to TM at Allamuchy. All this time you have been on my TM list and you never show up. I don't understand this, especially for someone who claims that Allamuchy is their fav place to ride?

Send me a PM if you would like me to take you off the list, this way it will eliminate at least one e-mail from your in-box.

Hey BTW, hope you have a great 4th of July!!!!

Your Buddy,

Bob W.

p.s. You know its all in good fun, right???

Morning folks,

I just spoke to the Superintendent of Ringwood State Park. Here is the situation:

If the budget impasse is not solved by midnight Tuesday, yes all State Parks (among other things) will be closed on Wednesday. Technically what does this mean? It means that:

signs will be posted that the park is closed.

- facilities will be closed.

- only emergency personnel will be on call. all other rangers and management staff will not be present and will be placed on furlough (for those of you in Rio Linda, that means no paycheck).

- any gates present will be locked and closed.

however, and here is the good news: the public does have access to trails. you can park outside the gates (if a parking area is available) or ride into the parks from another location.

any rangers (the designated emergency personnel that are on duty) are instructed to be non-confrontational to trail users. so, if on some odd chance you meet a rangers on the trail, be friendly and courteous, and do not be confrontational. if they tell you that the park is closed, don't argue. if they tell you to leave, do it. however the likelihood of this occuring is extremely unlikely. remember, rangers in state parks tend to like mtb'ers so don't do anything stupid to ruin that relationship.

let's hope this closure does not happen, and if it does, let's hope the politicians can sort out a compromise fast.

Allaire Is Closed

The signs went up in the parking lot today:cryin: .I called the park and asked if the trails were closed and was told the whole park will be closed. The rangers will still be active so I guess they'll enforce the closure:sad: .So it's just better to stay away than face a trespassing fine.:nono:

i don't think this info is correct. the rangers will not be active, they're being sent home for the most part. i guess who's actually still on site at these parks comes down to what is considered "emergency" personnel. according to mergs in his post above, the gates will be locked, the lights will be turned off so to speak and that's that. there will be a skeleton crew on hand for who knows what, but otherwise it will be empty

personally, i think i plan on riding regardless. i cannot and will not allow stupid political issues to detract from my love of biking. besides, i have a receipt and $50 worth of park pass on my car window that say i have access to the parks. if someone stops me and tells me i have to leave then i will, but until that happens its business as usual for me...

Botanical Garden @ Ringwood is already closed

Thought about starting from Lot C this morning and was stopped part way up the road by rangers. Told me that since the botanical garden is a historic site, it closed as of today. Shepards Lake is still open today, but price is steep.

Told them I'll head over to the school and they did not have a problem with that.

Guess what folks....as a group we do not weld much influence in Trenton. But do you know who does? The Casinos. They tried to be excluded from this shut down and where denied. The state is loosing 1.5 million a day in taxes from that and there are some pretty heavy hitters that will not let this go into the weekend. Fear not....the trails will be open soon.
