Ok check it out, my ALL MOUNTAIN DHR. As you might notice, I switched to a 160 rear rotor to save some weight. I am using a Gustav on the back end for ultimate skidding power. It is kind of heavy but worth it. I was riding a 5 spot but it wasn’t all-mountain enough so I got this instead. What do you think? Oh yeah, do you know if anyone makes a front derailleur that will fit this frame? Should I get top or bottom pull?

Frame: 06 DHR Medium

Fork: Rockshox Domain 318 180mm

Rubber: Maxxis DH (good for skids)

Wheelbase: 45.75

BB height : 14.5

Weight: 34.23 pounds

Gotta ditch the Saints, some carbon road cranks would be sick!
In addition forget the front derailleur and go SS, way more core.

No front brake at all bra!
Plus those heavy arse tires are not needed for AM riding :)

Ohhh ohhh and a GRavity retarder seat post is def the way to go (u know my vote).
Would help you get it up there high enough for those long climbs!!

Plus...is that rear der a sora or something? Pfffshhhh, don't those only come on road bikes?
Any real DHer knows that road parts will immediately combust on contact when used on a real DH trail.

Nice :)

You're going to need an all mountain camelback.

Accept no substitute.

I think it looks sweet.

When it comes time to upgrade my 04 DHR to the new model i will be turning the old frame into a 5 inch front and rear bike. Put a shorter shock on and it will rip for sure.

Reminds me of Rene's 'xc' Dare of yesteryear... :D
I had an old-school '99/'00 Dare XC. It was the coolest bike ever built from wet noodles! :yikes:

Ok, seriously now, I've just never seen a DHR with a single crown so thought I'd give it a try and post a pic in case anyone was interested in seeing how it looks. Pretty sure the Totem and Domain have the same axle to crown. I am running the same headset configuration on both of my bikes, using an E13 reducer on top, and I split up an FSA extreme something-or-other for the bottom half, so it was really easy to swap forks. The lower headset cup on the DHR is actually upside down. The bearings are the same on that headset top and bottom, so I ordered an extra crown race... it works. I like the low stack height of the E13 cups on top, and the larger bearing size (and increased head angle slacktitude due to height) of the FSA on the lower race.

It's kind of weird sitting on the DHR with a single crown, as I am used to seeing a 888 up front. Something about having the big triple just makes the whole setup feel invincible IMO.

P.S. Oh yeah, it ain't anywhere near 34 pounds!

:)

That would be hot with a 650B wheel up front.

When this frame was built up in dh mode, I had a 24 inch wheel in the rear for a while, so I could run bigger rubber. A 650B up front and a 24 in the back would have been mega-hawt!
