For those who love the BCT, you will love the Alamo Canyon section of the Arizona Trail near Superior. The AZ Trail Association has been busy the last couple of years rerouting the trail off of the old jeep roads and has built some realy fine singletrack. This was my first time exploring the new trail out and rode it south from the Picket Post Trailhead for 9 miles. It's mostly a rolling up hill going south with lots a techical tid bits to keep you on your toes. The return trip north is fun swoopy singletrack. Definenitly worth the trip out before is gets to hot. Here is a MAP from the AZ trail Ass. web site.

So does this new segment continue on past the "right" that dumps you into the wash for the climb out?

If you can ride most of Hawes, you can ride Alamo Canyon. There are technical bits where the trail dives into stream crossings that you will probably walk, but they are short. Ride out as far as yo ulike and then turn around.

The trailhead is located off of US 60 about 2 miles west of Boyce Thompson Arboretum. Look for the sign calling out for the Picketpost Trailhead

Not sure where you are talking about. I basically road the section of trail in red on the map to the point where is turns green. The section of trail from where is crosses FR4 to the end of the red line was built this season and hasn't been packed down yet. Next time I plan to ride further all the way to the Wilderness boundary next fall.

Seems a shame, but when you're body is cracking and the food in Superior is calling...
add to that and your chain just broke twice, have no tubes left, out of water....

I have only laughed at the thought of continuing on the Alamo singletrack, in fact I rode the connector from the Picketpost parking lot to the culvert, that 1/10 of a mile, and I was begging for some paved highway with speeding 18 wheelers.
