I'm riding with a co-worker Monday night at Fremont Older, around 6:30pm. If you see me on my new 29er SS, say hi. Otherwise, I expect it to be a slow ride... it's my friend's first ride out this season.

Whoah. How'd you get a 29er so quick. Details, we want details...and pics.
It's a steel Voodoo Dambala.

I was down visiting my parents in Orange County a couple of weeks ago, and went into The Path bike shop (known to be one of the best mountain bike shops in SoCal, located in my childhood town of Tustin). Anyway, I went in to browse, and ended up walking out of there with a great deal on a frame, fork, wheels, and tires. I splurged on a Chris King steel cassette cog, and built up the rest of the bike from the parts bin. Thanks to Velocipus for helping me install the headset (and some other random assemblage).

Here are some photos...

Proper.

Look at that short a$$ chainstay. Very nice.
It's almost all the way forward in the sliding dropouts and there's almost an inch of room to spare. So when it gets muddy again, I should be able to play around with chains and gears to get more clearance, if necessary. But for now, I like that the big wheel is tucked beneath me as much as possible.

F.O. Trails update from this a.m. :
Part of Toyon is temporarily closed due to a slide and Parker Ranch is now closed to bikes.
If anyone left a bike lock/cable there, I made a new thread today about this item.

EDIT : Everyone's right, I'm wrong. I was typing quickly and thinking of the next sentence before the first was finished.

All of Toyon is closed? I was there yesterday around midday and only the southern most section of the three sections of Toyon is closed (the one with the real steep climb near the end of the trail). The other two sections were open and have been for a while.

Nice to see another 29er here.

How's Freemont Older?
Same as it ever was... a bit dusty, but still a good ride close to the highway.

The very Southern end is closed, which I guess is one less trail I'd probably have to walk my singlespeed up.

Seven Springs closed to bikes? Whatcha talkin' about Willis?! I rode it tonight, but can't say I was on the lookout for any new signage. Website still has it listed as open.

how is the reba performing?
Seems to be working so far, but I'm not really one for in-depth reviews. I haven't really taken it on anything too bumpy or rocky, so can't comment on it's plushness or stiffness. I do like the remote lockout, which works quite well for hammering the climbs.

No kidding. On group rides I am thinking about wearing a dust mask. While I wouldn't wear it on the uphills, where dust is usually not a problem and breathing is, a dust mask doesn't help with the dust in the eyes problem which can get pretty bad. :(

Sweet looking bike btw.

Yep... Not trying to throw water on anyone's fire, but there's a sign behind the glass at the trailhead. Says that Parker Ranch is controlled by the City of Sara. If possession is 9/10ths of the law, then ignorance must be the final 1/10th. "Ride On!"

EDIT : Earlier error corrected.

has that been there for a while? I was out there last week, along with some friendly rangers with radar guns, and the rangers were definately okay with speed limit obeying bikes.

I checked the map. I was wrong. It's Parker Ranch trail that is closed to bikes and is controlled by City of Saratoga. Whew! When I make mistakes, I make 'em, huh?
Sorry for the hijack, 8Trak. It was all with good intentions.

Any interest in an after-work ride Thursday?
Since this was my original thread, it's not technically a hijack if I use it to post my ride itinerary for the week.

Monday - That was my F.O. ride
Tuesday - No ride tonight
Wednesday - Mission Peak, if Zorg is up to it
Thursday - I'm riding with the group at the Gap, see the other thread..
Friday - Anyone up for a slacker ride mid-day up near Marin/SF? Tamarancho?
Saturday - Most likely Dan's Demo extravaganza

Plim, are you in the southbay on Thursday... if so, join the Gap ride.
