i bought a used bike awhile back that is my primary mountain bike. it has avid juicy 3 brakes that i hate. they just seem like a pain to deal with and i have no clue how to work on them. sometime in the near future ill be replacing them. are bb7's really low maintnace ? i just want a strong reliable brake set. i dont want to spend more than 200 bucks

Advice on brakes...use them if your hauling ass going down hill!!!!

BB7's are good, but not great, and the "Avid turkey call" gets annoying. If you want great stopping power, stick with hydro's. You can pick up a set of Shimano SLX on Ebay for about $140-180.

If they are adjusted and bled correctly, and the pads are broken in right, Juicy 3's aren't too bad... that being said, I swapped mine for some older Hayes 9 carbons and am very happy with them. In my opinion, Hayes are easier to work on, and have plenty of power.
