I'm headed on a week vacation to Edwards, CO next week (not far from Beaver Creek and Vail) and need some advice.

Some factors that might influence advice:
1. I've only been riding single track a year
2. I live near Atlanta and am not used to the high altitude
3. I want to try some downhill
4. I'll be renting a minivan while out there, but it won't have a hitch or bike rack.

Questions:
1. Best places to ride? I like the idea of spending a day at a park with lifts, like Vail, but I've read they can be very busy and not well taken care of.
2. Options for bike rentals? Ideally, I'd get something for the week so I could go out for some morning rides even if I don't have half a day to ride, but I'm not sure how to make that work given my transportation.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions and guidance!

If you go to Vail during the week and ride the Gondola, it won't be busy at all. They have a great trail network for beginner-intermediates, and it's absolutely beautiful up there.

If you look on MTB Project, there are a bunch of super fun, flowy trails on the north side of I-70 in Edwards and Avon... check those out for sure. Lee's Way is the main trail everyone loves, but there's other good stuff as well.

If you make the drive over to Eagle, there are a bunch of intermediate-friendly trails there too. Boneyard and Pool/Ice is a good loop, and the Haymaker trails at the bottom of Pool/Ice is where the CO NICA championships are every year.
