I was out riding last night with my fiance and once again my Sugar was suffering from a squeak attack. I was riding along trying to pinpoint the sound and thought it would be either my pedals, suspension, or saddle. I assumed it was probably the suspension since my bike has had suspension squeaks and clicks before. This time the sound was different and really damn annoying.

When we got home we took a closer look and pinpointed the noise. With me sitting on the bike I slowly bounced up and down on the saddle and the squeak was definitely coming from the saddle. I've got an Avocet O2 with titanium rails and a Sofspine nose. The nose has an opening in the bottom that allows for pressure relief in the the sensitive area. Well this part of the saddle is all loosey goosey and guess this is where the squeak is coming from.

Let's just say I was a bit annoyed that the sound was coming from the saddle and isn't fixable. So it looks like I need a new saddle....This is where it gets kind of funny...

I've ridden my fiance's bike before and she has a selle italia lady's model saddle and I've always found it very comfortable. I've always found the men's racing saddles very hard and uncomfortable because I have very little padding in my butt....Yes I'm a skinny guy (just under 5'-9" and 135lbs)...I find that there isn't enough padding for my sit bones. That was why I went with the Avocet. It fit my butt good and the titanium rails gave the perfect amount of flex.

My fiance said, go buy one....her saddle...and put it on my bike...My fear is I'll get laughed off the bike trail *laugh*.....Then again if it fits and it's comfortable it makes sense....

I know for most guys a ladies saddle would be too small in overall length, but I am a small guy....In some regards I think it might make sense...

Of course I could grab a black marker and black out the ladies symbol on the side...

OK as long as you stay out of California

If you were to ride that saddle there, the governor might call you a "Girly Man."

Other than that, what the heck. People should not be staring at your skinny butt anyway.

Who cares what other people think...

...if it was found that a womens specific designed bike was faster than a regular guys bike and you won a race on it then I guess you'd be the one laughing right?

Anyways it's just a seat, if it's more comfortable and it would allow you to ride further and faster then go for it.

BWAAAHH hhaaha haha haha

Maybe you'll grow some girlie parts to conform to your new girlie saddle!

Just kidding.

WSD saddles are generally wider to support women's wider sit bones. Your narrow azz might not be able to get over the back of the saddle quick enough on the descents. Just something to think about....

There are about 1000 different saddle designs out there. Find a shop that will let you mount them, and find a new favorite saddle. My current favorite is the FiZik Pave''. WTB tends to have wider, more comfort-oriented saddles than Selle Italia. SI's are not the most comfortable out there.

There is nothing wrong with using any saddle that is comfortable for you. If somebody want's to comment about them, ask them why they are spending time looking at your ass.

Before you get that saddle you should check out some alternatives. I strongly suggest you check the Terry Fly saddles and the WTB saddles, both of which are comfortable for many people. If you have a performance bike near you, it is worth buying these from them because you can return them no questions asked if you don't like them after a few rides.

Wtb

I have an Avocet Ti O2 saddle too, it fit fantastic. I tried a WTB Pro Gel Speed V and it fit me perfect too. But now when I go back over to the Avocet it is like sitting on a brick. I agree with the other posts, go with what is comfortable. If your LBS won't let you try saddles, go to REI --- rei.com if you don't have a local store. They have a 100% satisfaction guarantee, if you don't like it they will let you return it.

A possible problem

Make sure it does not have the following warning sticker :

"This saddle is intended for chicks only and any dude who thinks it's comfortable is clearly a closet case."

If there's no warning, the go for it!

Have the same problem...

I have the same anatomical problem... no pad on the sit bones and riding a long time can hurt like hell on a typical mtb racing saddle. I read all the saddle-related posts on this site and wound up at an LBS that did a great job of swapping different saddles on a test bike for me to tryout. For whatever reason, my best fit was on a saddle that was more rounded and flared-up toward the back... this felt better than those that are more flat on top. I thought I would find what I like in the the WTB line, but their better saddles were too hard for me... ended up liking the Fizik Pave' the best. Before I committed to that, I decided to try a Brooks Swift to see if their reputation for moulding to each person's contours would solve my problem. I've put 350 miles on it over the past month... so far, it's pretty comfortable. It must be the nature of beast but the Brooks starts out feeling hard on the first mile or two, but after you get going, you forget about it (which was my goal). You definitely have to play around with the position on a Brooks because it sits differently than a regular saddle (more toward the front and less pressure on the sit-bones). If you can't find a he-man saddle that works for you, go with the women's specific one you mentioned... if humiliated by that, try altering the graphics or something. Good luck!
