FYI:

I rode on the trails across from Colonie Park this morning, and the property owner has started to build what appears to be a new housing development on the section closest to Rte. 9. The trails are torn up, and whoever was operating the heavy equiptment made obvious attempts to dig up and block off the existing trails with knocked down trees. It's a shame to lose such a great trail system, but with all the ribbons and new paint that appeared on the trees, I knew it would be a matter of time.

You can still ride about 3/4 of the trail system there with a few short hike-a-bike sections. If you liked the trails, you better get out and ride them this weekend. I'll bet come Monday morning, they will be back in there.

That is not good news. I haven't ridden there in a week or so, I come back from a nice weekend with some cool riding in PA, and I have to look forward to more trails being destroyed by "progress". The Poop Loop will probably fall before long. I'd much rather have had them build another development in the Pine Bush, rather than on that little chunk of land on the ridge at the Colonie Town Park. Life is not fair. :(

Will be up tommorrow night to check out the damage. :(

It is definitely NOT good news. That's my "home" ride, so to speak. The areas trashed so far are closest to Rte 9. The corduroy next to the fence in the predominately wet area just before that nice short tech climb is gone. They drove the equiptment right over the top of the shaley hill, and purposely dug up the corduroy.

The only hope as I see it is maybe some of the loops closer to the bike path might survive. I'll be there tonight, as well.

The End

I rode there last night and its not pretty, The majority of the trails closer to the bike path are still intact. It looks like they just plowed a rough road through and have a series of survey stakes marking test hole locations (pre-construciton task) scattered beyond the road that was made. From what I could tell they are following the ridge that has the stone wall running along it (the wall being some old property line).

On a side note, I parked near the Sewage Plant next to the Poop Loop yesterday, and when I pulled up around 4:45 a NYS undercover police car (green) was parked there unattended. I was the only car there at the time and I was originally going to ride the Pits but after seeing the car I went to the Ridge Trail. Does anyone know what it was doing there?
