My daughter is outgrowing her 12" Cromo Gary Fisher. The bike is a tank. I haven't weighed it, but I know it weighs a lot more than my five spot. Looking for something boyish so I can give to my little boy when she outgrows it. Thanks for any help.

They're pretty much all tanks. Got my Boys a Giant and a Trek. The only real difference between the different bikes is color scheme and how they attach the training wheels. I'd say pick your favorite big bike co for the kids bike.

And yeah, those buggers are heavy.

Heck, I just went cheapo Wally World for that age. I got my oldest son a Specialized 20" when he was 6 and started going riding with me. He was on the cheapo bike just cruising the greenway for so little time that I felt no remorse. He's loving the Specialized and is actually doing things that it's suited for.
support yer local bike shop! dont get a wally ride man. they fail one part after another till it costs ya more in parts and labor than somethin decent. happens every day in my shop. and yeah, they are all pretty much the same from one big brand to the next. jmz is spot on with the training wheel thing. look for some that arent crap. the trek family brands do well here and the grafics are pretty hot again this year. mucho moto!
I agree

I see that specialized & Haro both make 16" BMX bikes. I guess I'll drive around town & see if I can see how heavy these bikes are. I just want my daughter to be able to lift her bike up stairs & curbs etc. I also

id forgotten about the haros. those look sweet!
they are all heavy

but just as our bikes kids bikes differ in top tube length, seat adjustment and bar "height" and adjustment. amd with bottom bracket and coaster brake options. I bought a trek mountain cub brand new from a garage sale and it went through 2 boys and a girl, dark blue in color i thought it was a boys bike until some one else pointed out to me that the top tube slopes. i'd say that was the best investment i made. i bought a wally world 8 " for my daughter which worked fine though as well. the 16 " wally world bikes are usually heavier and bigger, my sister bought one for her little one and it has had non stop problems. I have smaller kids that want to ride big stuff so the lbs ended up being the best idea for the last bike purchased. I would definitely take the kid to check out the bike, for sizing reasons.good luck

The Haro kids line is awesome. Both of my sons (3 & 5) have the Mirra 360 BMX bike. It is a little heavy but well built. The newest one we got has 3 pc cranks too.

The best thing with the Haro bikes is the gearing and slightly longer cranks. My kids smoke the rest of the neighborhood kids because their bikes are easier to pedal. I am thinking about getting the 5 yr old a Haro 20" MTB for Xmas (unless DT comes out with a kids Flux:) ).

Mirra 360 16" wheels
