9120 levers with 9100 calipers?!

1130 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  the-one1
Is there anyone that tried this combo to share some feedback?!
Does it work with 9100 calipers?
Is lever throw better?
Braking performance?!
I'm using servo wave brakes to my commuter and trail bike and i hate the throw of the 9100 on my "competition" bike.

All Shimano levers works with all Shimano calipers as long as the hose connector at the caliper fits.

Sounds like your 9100 levers are the Trail levers without servo wave. Changing to a servo wave lever will make it feel different (less throw) and provide more power.

Not really. But thanks.

I guess you're right. Ignore what I said.
This is an example i found while exploring the tec.
Also i tried bymyself some slx675 levers with mt420 4 piston and it was so spongy and with huge level throw. Also i think (not so sure though)zees pushes more fluid than others.

Trail levers have servo-wave which changes modulation throughtout the lever pull.....ie-less linear and no modulation.
The Race style levers have no servo-wave, which means the pull is linear, and allows more modulation.

In Layman's terms, more linear modulation equates to what people think are "squishy" brakes. The servo-wave creates a sharper bite point, which gives the feeling of stronger, grabbier brakes.
It's the difference between rider experience and preference.

If you're doing a mix of levers and calipers, NOT all Shimano brakes work together. Look up spec lists on differences in hoses. The banjo fittings and bolts are different. You might get them to bolt up and "work", but in reality, you don't have fluid flowing properly because the holes are lined up properly in fluid channels.

I believe that's backwards. Trail levers have servo-wave. Race levers do not.
