I'm going to have $175 into this once I sell the other frame I got to a buddy. Sorry for the bad photos, I'm way late for work. I had some issues getting the fixed cup out of the old frame. I love old bikes. Vive le thumbies!

Check out the XT bear trap pedals. My daughter never liked them much anyway. 8^) I probably won't ride with them much, but I couldn't resist completing the XT kit. The seatpost is the original XC Pro, and the levers are SLR 2-finger; XT?

The tires are IRC Backcountry 2.25s, and they fit with room to spare. Sorry if they're not vintage enough for you. The Ground Control Extremes are going to a good home.

I need a new correctish vintage Shimano 36t standard black ring. Anyone?

Cool, that's the frame my roommate had senior year of college. Of course, it was only about a year or two old then!

I like the old Shimano pedals, actually. I now have them on four bikes (one of which is dissassembled at the moment) - three sets of XT and one Deore.

You can tell if the levers are XT by the code on them - if it's M-7xx, then it's XT as far as I know. First Flight bikes has a great list of older, higher-end Shimano components:

Dang that's a pretty bike. If you ever get board with it let me know. :p
I think I've might have a catalog from that year stashed somewhere. My first mtb was a '91 Hard Rock Sport, which I traded in about a year later for a used 91 Stumpie - Yellow, purple lettering, DX parts, of which I still have most laying around.

I loved that bike. Many good times...

Yup. BL-M733.

They've got a chart with stumpjumpers too, but this one's not on it. It's a team frame, stamped 91xxx on the bb, and came with XC pro parts, but it's either purple or black pearl, and it's not listed. I saw a '92 catalog today, and only the s-works frame was chromo that year. My lbs has a '92 s-works hanging on the wall, and the owner claims to have a '92 Ultimate. I'll try to get him to break it out for some pictures.

The Comp I posted about the other day where I got this parts kit is stamped 90xxx on the bb, but it's the Matte Gray one they have listed at '91. Who knows?

VINTAGE WHEELSET WANTED: 6-SPD XT M730 or similar hubs. Araya RM-17 or RM-20 or similar rims.
I've got the wheels you want (XT, RM-20), in nice shape with a nice original XT freewheel. You'd have to come up with a very good 7 speed wheelset, good casette and the right bottom-pull front derailleur (I'll measure) and pay shipping both ways to get them.

Just check ...

... and find out that "91 Stumpjumper Team" is correct.

I got the same bike earlier this summer - spec'ed as shown in the catalog

:)
Wow. That one came out fantastic FE! Very, very well done!

You're going to ride it a lot right?

It will probably be my main bike for a while. The only thing keeping me from riding that D'back all the time was the 1:1 granny. This is 24:28.

I'm going to quit fooling around with ebay stuff and refurb my singlespeed over the holidays and into January. It's an 853 Gunnar (Waterford), but it's going to become either an Ibis or a Phil Wood.
Nice bike!

It's a 1991 Stumpjumper Team originally equipped with a full XC-Pro gruppo. I have the same bike at home it was my first really good mountain bike. Having it customized during the 90s it's now completely original again (except pedals)
Looks great, especially with the paint in such good condition.
Glad it's going to see some action. My (singlespeeded) '90 stumpy team still gets used almost daily as a hack bike/commuter/shopper.
"but it's the Matte Gray one they have listed at '91. Who knows?"
yup, that sounds right. I had that model.. although I ploughed it into a car size rut a year later & totalled the frame (& my wrist!)

nice build, looks pristine :)
Nice ride, very very similar to my 1991 Steel "S" Works bike. I need to post some photos myself.
Sweet!
I've always liked those purple frames. Man, I still regret not buying one of those frames on closeout for ~$250 from a Santa Cruz shop in '93.. nice find. You better ride it like ya stole it ;)

There are a few spots that have been touched up with my custom paint matching repair system:

I still like the pedals, but I shinburgered with one this morning on my DB Axis. Oh well, my shin would be much worse off if it'd been those pinned platform pedals on my V-Link. Then again, perhaps my foot wouldn't have slipped off...maybe I need to put some clips and straps back on...
